In the end some middle of the road team (Islanders esque) will grab Meier as that 14-19 pick will have more value in a trade in this draft than NJ's or our 26+ pick. Any other draft and it likely isnt a big deal. Buffalo is my guess. Mittlestadt, a good prospect, and a 1st (top 10-12 protected).
Buffalo makes a ton of sense.

Yes. Similar skill set but more of a shooter than a passer, but has upper tier passing ability. He's not a guy who is going to go out and throw devastating hits every time he's on the ice, but he's a guy who plays with an edge and isn't afraid to hit.

He's not going to challenge for the Hart at any time, but he's absolutely someone who could step in and immediately be our leading scorer going forward, especially if he's able to convert the feeds he'd be getting from the guys he's be playing alongside of on our top 6.

In my opinion, he's the kind of player who would complete the makeup of this team to add the scoring punch to the end of our passes, and he can create his own shot when teams tighten up. He'd be a major help on the PP as well as give us needed scoring punch when teams take away passing lanes in the playoffs. He would add that missing ingredient that would make us a nightmare to play, and if there is a chance to get him, we gotta do it.
Sharks fan popping in randomly. Meier's a great power forward but he's not a particularly physically imposing guy. He skates with aggression through the neutral zone a la MacKinnon or Tuch, he's very strong along the boards, he has some grit to him but he's not going out of his way to blow somebody up, and he's very much a volume shooter so expect shots from just about anywhere. His hands have gotten better lately so he's starting to pull off more small ice dekes in the offensive zone and getting into the more dangerous parts of the ice.

I'd say he'd fit best on a line that needs a puck driver that can carry the puck but he's versatile enough that he can be the puck battler on the boards or be the shooting option as well. I would not expect high end passing from him.

Sounds like a match made in heaven!

In all seriousness it does sound like exactly what the Hurricanes need, big shoot first winger.

Careful now, you might send Rod to the hospital if it lasts more than four hours.

He played plenty of Center. Jarvis's best year in the WHL with 98 points in 58 games he played C. He then played C and W in Portland and Chicago on-and-off.

I think Jarvis's Center transition would look very similar to Aho's. He plays a similar cerebral game combined with hard work.
I want him to be harder to knock off his skates before doing that

Got to love Friedman's 32 thoughts and the podcast write up mentions what Carolina and Vancouver will do with their cap space.

LOL. Friedman's mention of us. Carolina has cap space, they are all in, in it to win it. That is it.

Dont even put Carolina in the write up blurb ya bums.

no offense at all intended….. buuuuuuut….

When did a 6 foot tall player who weighs 220 become a big, big guy?

Tage Thompson is a big, big guy…. Chara was a big big guy…. Ovi’s backside is a big big butt…. and throughout his career Ovi would steamroll over some folks and use the extra butt bulk in his lower half to his advantage

I suppose compared to the current state of physical development Jarvis then Meier is bigg*ER*…. But we aren’t talking about some massive size difference and a wildly different playing style from someone with a wild intimidating physical presence…. Heck, Meier and Aho are the same height…. And Aho is not towering over anyone in a power forward kind of way :)

id like to see him on the Canes and see if his game really would be a good fit for how we play…. Not sure I want to have to pay 9.5mx8 along with the trade to find out… so SJ not letting teams talk about extension is a good thing for now helping keep things sane for now. And if they don’t allow talking before the trade I don’t see SJ getting a ransom for him…. No way I would pay some of the packages being talked about in this thread…. We need cost controlled young players to help offfset our high dollar players especially as more and more come up for their next contracts and we have to pay closer to current market rates for those we refuse to let walk…

The trade world and this thread have seen less action than a 12 yr old white boy with an afro wearing braces and a nasa t shirt and crocs.
