Well, thanks for your help, ChatGPT

Me: Is there a potential blockbuster trade the Carolina Hurricanes could make to help them win this year's Cup

ChatGPT: A potential blockbuster trade the Carolina Hurricanes could make to help them win the 2023 Stanley Cup would be acquiring a proven top-line center. With a talented group of wingers and defensemen, the addition of a top center could provide a significant boost to the team's offensive production and power play. A player like Nathan MacKinnon or Sebastian Aho could fit the bill and bring the kind of game-breaking talent the Hurricanes need to become serious Cup contenders. Of course, any trade of this magnitude would likely require the Hurricanes to part with a significant package of assets, including young players, prospects, and draft picks.

Me: What would that trade look like?

ChatGPT: The exact details of a trade for a player like Nathan MacKinnon or Sebastian Aho would depend on the specific needs and circumstances of both the Carolina Hurricanes and the team they are trading with. However, a trade of this magnitude would likely involve multiple high-end assets going in both directions.
From the Hurricanes' perspective, they would likely need to part with a package that includes a young, talented player or prospect, a high draft pick, and perhaps a veteran player to help balance the trade from a roster perspective. This might involve sending a player like Andrei Svechnikov, Jake Bean, and a first-round draft pick to the Colorado Avalanche for MacKinnon, or a similar package to the Montreal Canadiens for Aho.
It's important to note that these kinds of trades are rare and require both teams to be motivated to make a deal. The Hurricanes would need to be willing to part with significant assets, while the other team would need to be willing to trade a player of MacKinnon or Aho's caliber. Ultimately, the exact details of a trade like this would be negotiated between the two teams.

Save for Eichel, Toffoli and Lyubushkin, all notable in-season trades were completed within 7 days of the deadline in 2022.

Some combination of cap considerations and price tension has led the market to wait it out.

This is one of those MTL fan fiction sites right? It might start like, "Mon Dieu, I never thought it would happen to me...."

So we need Sebastian Aho. Call up Dundon. We now know the missing link. We need to hop right on trading him from the dastardly Canadians

I'm not sure it's going to be that easy. The offer might have to be...hostile.

The matrix had already glitched hard on Sebastian Aho, so when you sent the AI at it, it broke into another timeline where Canes didn't match l'offre hostile d'Aho*.

Yes sorry 1 hour 31 minute mark
Thanks for the heads up. It was a long interview, but a fun listen. For much of the interview, Rod was so much more at ease, having fun and more engaging than he is in normal in-season interviews.

I remembered that he scored on his first ever NHL shot, but he said he scored on his first 2 NHL shots and his 3rd shot actually went in also but came out quickly and they called no goal (and there was no review).

He jokes about playing with Hull where they'd get to the bench and Brindy would be sitting right next to Hull as Hull is screaming to the coach "Get this guy off my line".

His whole story about the trade to Carolina, how it went down, and how bad it was for him at the start and how crushed he was, I've heard before, but still a fun listen.

Regarding the Storm Surge. He said before the season started, he was talking with Williams and said we have to come up with something for the fans and he told Willy about when he was in Switzerland during the lockout in 04, and they'd do this "hilarious" thing where they'd get together after the game and then jump into the crowd. He said Willy went to the team and they came up with the Surge. Said he didn't think it would be a big deal because it was suppose do be after the cameras stopped rolling and just for the fans. Early in the season that was the kind of the case, but 1/2 way through the season, the cameras kept rolling and it became a big deal.

You can tell he still thinks very highly of Laviollette. About Peters, "He's a very smart guy and I learned a lot from him. I learned a lot of what not to do also." Said he asked Ronnie to let him be head coach in Charlotte as he felt being an assistant for so many years wasn't going anywhere.

Also said he interviewed with another team before Dundon took over, but they didn't want him. Wouldn't name the team but said "they haven't been doing to well, but they are doing better now." Buffalo? Michigan State didn't want him either.

Burns son and Brindy's son play together so they were in Dallas for a tournament before Brindy headed to the all-star game... Brind coaching the kids, Burns in the stands.

At the end, he thanks the interviewers for doing their homework as he expected a "half-ass gong show". ha ha

For those who can’t listen can someone post a summary?
I posted the highlights. I thought it was worth the listen and it's free online. Regarding "we'll get someone at the deadline comment", he said (paraphrasing) "Yeah, I think so, as we now unfortunately have cap space. Pacioretty WAS that guy. He was the guy we thought might put us over the top. it was the perfect fit and exactly what we needed. If you had a leak in your boat, he was the guy that would plug it by scoring a big goal. he scored 3 goals and was still rusty as heck"

There were no specifics other than they were counting on Patches as a difference maker and now they have to go to plan B.

EDIT: I listened again and updated the text above. 1:31:30 mark

In his interview with Spittin Chiclets Rod hinted at the canes getting someone. Skip to the 1 hour and 31 minute mark in the interview and listen
