like I said I don’t know, just saw the tweet and let everyone know, what was out there? Outside of that if there is a trade who or what would the Canes offer and how much retainage should be sought?
its entirely possible we target him if a .8 ppg player this year goes well below market value. he isnt a great defensive center.

I'd take on Hayes with ~$1 million retention if it came with the Flyers 1st. Otherwise no thanks.

I would honestly take the full contract if they made the Flyers' 1st unprotected. The distant but distinct possibility of the Canes acquiring Connor Bedard makes it worth it.

Yeah, that will never happen. He's having a good year and went to an All-Star game this year. Someone will take his contract with some retention. Could be us if the retention is good. A second line center for 3 years that can hit fifty points at $3.5M (50% retention) has a lot of value in our organization when other contracts need to be extended.

NHLrumors.me does a lot of taking speculation or rumor and slapping an aggressive title on it for clicks. NHL fans are desperate this time of year.

That one isn’t even sourced. Pay no mind.

I agree. That site is crap. However, depending on how much credibility you put into Pagnotta, Hayes has been linked to CAR before. Makes a lot of sense, if they can get the Flyers to retain, say, $1.5M, Hayes at $5.5M for the next 3yrs doesn’t look horrible.

Seems like it’d be similar to the Trocheck acquisition.

Hayes at $5.5M, Barabashev, Puljujarvi or Bertuzzi at $2- 4.75M and you still should have close to enough for adding a D too, without having to part with Jarvis, Morrow, Nikishin, etc.

Bertuzzi-Aho-Teravainen
Svechnikov-Hayes-Necas
Martinook-Staal-Fast
Noesen-Kotkaniemi-Jarvis
Stepan

That works for me, might need DET to retain a bit on Bertuzzi.

One thing that I will say is that Hayes likely plays on the wing in Carolina because of his lacking defensive and face-off numbers. He'd still be very useful for us, though, as a big, scoring top-6er to add another element to the Aho/Turbo line, and, all cap dump fever dream jokes aside, he'd likely come at a far lower asset price than someone like Crouse.

Looking at Hayes’s stats and they are better than I was expecting… I just don’t think I’ve ever watched a game he played in and thought “oh he’s good”. Not that I see every game or anything but I have just zero impression of him in my mind at all and I know I must have seen him play he’s been on big market teams almost his entire career

There’s tons of content out there, if you’re hungry for it. You shouldn’t need rumor sites and Twitter accounts like NRD. All of the insiders have podcasts in addition to the written work (Ray and Dregs, DFO Rundown, The Chris Johnston Show, 32 Thoughts, Got Yer Back). Radio hits are still a thing; Friedman is on the Jeff Marek show for a segment every weekday, for example.

If they acquired Hayes I’m sure the Spittin Chiclets guys would be all on the Canes bandwagon

I still have zero interest in Hayes, even with retention. He just doesn't do it for me. As I said, Konecny is the only guy I really care for, and yes, he is super unlikely to be moved. I could at least live with JVR as a low-cost rental if it came to that. Probably one or two other guys I might be okay with that also won't likely be moved.

I think that it's still smart to keep eyes on Arizona, if only because I think that Crouse is the 6'4"/220 lbs forward that the Canes truly need. He'd probably be the most expensive player to realistically acquire at the deadline this year, even more so than Meier due to the four seasons remaining, but much like what Hagel is for Tampa, I could see his asking price truly being worth it for us.
Career high of 20G - 14A sure as hell better not even be in the ballpark of the ask for Meier...his current 16G 12A is pacing for a career year, but still only a bit above .5 PPG. He's 2G-1A above Staal FWIW

In terms of point production, sure. But both Meier and (to a lesser extent) Tarasenko bring a physical aspect to the game that Hayes doesn't. One that would certainly be at a premium come playoffs.
I wouldn’t consider an 80 hit player bringing any physical element. Hayes is big at 6’5 and like Mantra doesn’t use it as much as you would hope. But hayes doesn’t get pushed around.
