Considering that we now have $10.5M in space, I wonder if it's coming to the point that the Canes try for a salary dump move for a depth D. The Bruins are looking to add big for their final push but simultaneously have Mike Reilly, by all accounts a pretty good LD, rotting in the AHL. I wonder if there's a deal to be made there where Carolina gets Boston to pay a 3rd or something to dump that contract.
we could be part of a 3 way deal where we retain 50% salary for someone im hoping for a 2nd or late 1st rounder if we choose not to get anyone big , why waste 10 million .and do nothing

More old guys.

We need less old guys.
I almost forgot to say regarding Henrique's age, the great thing is that his contract has 1 year after this so he is both, not a rental, while also being a short term contract. Not to mention every team will try to get him with retention; so even better.

IF we get Henrique (and likely with retention as the cherry on top of the cake), we can get a replacement either next deadline, or next summer (ideally EP). Or even as soon as this summer if there's some player the Canes really love as a 2C for us (Larkin walking to free agency? Big maybe). Also, at 32, he has enough gas in the tank for next year. Worse case scenario is we give him a short term extension for 1 or maybe 2 years if he's willing to accept it.

*Edit* Also, as far as I know, Henrique doesn't have an injury concern unlike some of the other 30 something year old forwards we've discussed.

I don't know that the "right of first refusal" will really work that way though. SJ would then likely turn around to the team that previously had the best offer and say "NJ has just countered with this, what are you now willing to add to your offer".

so listening to his 32 thoughts, that last tweet was pure conjecture about their chances.

It was about 30 seconds of Meier and NJ talk. The rest was about the other bunches of teams interested in Meier, potential contract implecations which that poster covered but it was mentioned with NJ, and then about 4 minutes on Toronto or Winnipeg paying the ransom for him and then flipping him at the draft.

More bright lights, big city appeal it seems.

I sympathize with the Canes FO as my son feels the same. As much as NC is home, it can't seem to compete with the endless fun To Dos, food options, etc. at one's fingertips.

It's right around the Kane/Panarin/Tarasenko salaries where all of the nightmarish issues with New York City (mainly surrounding the absurdly high cost of living) start to matter far less in the calculus. It still has an impact, for sure, which is why many rich people are fleeing the state and city in droves, but the richer that you are, the more reasons why the lights of Manhattan are still appealing.

I wonder how many of them actually live "in the city". I know Marc Staal used to live in Connecticut, for instance. I've read before that many of them live in rented homes out in Long Beach or other parts of Long Island, which still has a high cost of living, but not as high as being in Manhattan).

Honestly think it was more the possible Panarin factor with Rangers

Kane/Panarin really enjoyed playing together.
I was just thinking this morning that it's totally on him for thinking 10 extra days will give him some big revelation on whether he wants to move or not. Make a damn decision guy.

To be fair to Kane he has GF and child to factor into decision as well + his mom moved to Chicago to be closer to them and his dad is in and out between Chicago/Buffalo regularly now.

So, if he decides to move on from Chicago his GF/Child/Mother factor into it

I think that it's still smart to keep eyes on Arizona, if only because I think that Crouse is the 6'4"/220 lbs forward that the Canes truly need. He'd probably be the most expensive player to realistically acquire at the deadline this year, even more so than Meier due to the four seasons remaining, but much like what Hagel is for Tampa, I could see his asking price truly being worth it for us.

Did those factors just sneak up on him? Perhaps they did, but the trade possibilities have been well known to be heading this way for some time. And as shown, not everyone will wait around for your decision.

In fairness to both Kane and the Hawks, save for the Lyubushkin trade, all notable rentals were dealt within a week of last year’s deadline. A late February decision or whatever was not an unfair expectation.

Not that justified reasoning is all that comforting. Results do matter.

Western CT should be considered a county of NY.

Would Vladislav Gavrikov fit the Canes needs for a LH D? If so the Canes may be able to get him for Coghlan
There’s a lot of teams interested in Gavrikov. No chance he’s available for a guy who’s been a dumpster fire for most of the season and doesn’t look to have all that much potential to grow into.

are they legit?
like I said I don’t know, just saw the tweet and let everyone know, what was out there? Outside of that if there is a trade who or what would the Canes offer and how much retainage should be sought?
