a trade and sign (stone style) would be required for any deal for Meier

The thing is, the future considerations we gave Vegas were really Timo Meier. So we have to acquire him first in order to be able to send him back to Vegas in the future. Nothing we can do about it but accept the large QO. Is what it is man

Thinking about the last few off seasons:

*The front office has done a good job patching up goaltending in the short term 4 or 5 times now while we try to find someone in the system.
*The old vets/depth scoring signings have been pretty lackluster. TDA is the best one I can think of.
*notable flops (lets call them passengers): Dzingle, Stastny, Kase, Patches (counting guys who haven't produced YET!), Bear,
*okay signings (I guess?): Fast, CDH, Stepan
*These old guys do not look fast, big, or most importantly HUNGRY. We need young kids who want to fight tooth and nail for their shot in the NHL and who want to WIN. Not people who are looking to get carried to a cup.
*We have gotten a ton of darts in drafts the last few seasons and haven't used them in the roster or to upgrade the roster. I'm becoming of the mindset that we should try and get better at bringing some of the young guys on ELCs to the roster as we're a cap team now. They can at least add elements we don't have or continue to grow versus people who are stagnating and declining.
*Lets start developing some Roy, Geekie, Luostarinen, Forsling type guys that we've been casting off and fill out depth with young guys with upside.

The problem is most of the team doesn't look inspired or hungry. The guys who have been powering the team the last few seasons don't look like people who are engaged or bought in any more. I don't want to blame that on RBA or say they have tuned him out. If these guys keep this up long enough something will change and I'm not sure it will be for the better.

Holding on to assets for the ideal hockey trade hasn’t bore fruit for them in recent years. A Trocheck type trade occurs infrequently, leaguewide.

They may have to bend on their perceived principles to get what the team needs at a certain point.

How is Kotkaniemi doing? Is there a bright future for him in Carolina?

He's doing just ok. Starting slow, he's been the center between Svech and Necas who have both obviously had unreal starts to the year but most here would agree he's been more or less a passenger with them. I think he'll ultimately settle as our 3C as Staal ages (maybe as a level of contributor not dissimilar to Lars Eller, given your profile pic).
