gonna quote myself from 7 hours ago like a jerk so you can laugh at me

I'm still a little confused about the Rick Dudley situation, but I might be missing something. in Don Waddell's post-draft media availability, he was asked about Dudley's impact on the draft and he was pretty clear that Dudley works on the pro side mainly, with a bit of help to amateur stuff. the amateur stuff is under MacDonald (and now Darren Yorke)'s umbrella.

I guess I either forgot what Dudley was brought in to do, or something has changed since he arrived.

I am so dumb Confirmed with Link: - Francis out as GM - Don Waddell named GM 5/8/18

Dudley was focused on the amateur side with Montreal, sounds like he'll have more contact with the pro side in Carolina.
sounds like he's already done quite a bit of work looking at the top of this particular draft.
that said, he didn't want to get into specifics about what his actual role is, because as he says, he doesn't exactly know yet.
sounds like Don Waddell was pretty much the driving force to hire him.
the lesson, as always, is never post

What i took from all that was when asked about Williams retiring we were told we had young players to step in. Sounds pretty cheap.
So, you choose to ignore the adding a goalie and a forward or two? And that even after that Williams would be welcomed back?

The proof will be in the pudding, but based on his timeline, there may not be any options to replace Williams by the time he makes up his mind than Charlotte guys. But sounds like they want to add before that time anyways.

So there are a number of you that want Turris? That’s interesting to me. He’s in the second year of a 6x6 deal, and would slot in as the second scoring center (not necessarily 2C as Staal would play the tougher minutes).

I’m not a huge fan of attitude, but he plays well on the left wall on the PP.

I guess that number is one (or two if you were also on board). I hope he's not our top target (Panarin, Marchessault, Laine, Gourde, Boeser, Labanc), but he's a decent fall-back option. He checks a lot of boxes, center, right-shot, power-play facilitator. The contract isn't great, but seriously, $6 million is going to be the going rate very soon. I think he's a little underrated, has been a victim of his own draft slot, and could also have more to give and could benefit from camp Brindy.

No I’m not on board at all. I thought I remembered a bunch of people on here interested. My bad.

Zero Wednesday games.

How long did it take them to figure out that Wednesday is a church night in this market? Only twenty years!

I think what it comes down to is that there's a chasm between realizing something and actually doing something about it.

The old regime realized stuff, they just preferred to complain about it and throw their hands up, whereas the current ownership identifies an issue and -- *gasp* -- takes immediate steps to *fix* it.

It is so freaking refreshing to realize that if I've identified an issue, it's very likely our ownership has also identified the same issue, and has probably already taken the first steps toward *addressing* the issue. It's stunning to me what we put up with the past 20 years.

Noteworthy:

With the addition of Forsberg, the Checkers will probably be losing Dustin Tokarski as a UFA. He was 12-0-0-1 with some crazy save% in the .945 range including regular season and playoffs.

Apparently our goalie depth will look like this:

NHL
[#1 goalie TBD]
Ned or Forsberg

AHL
Ned or Forsberg
Callum Booth

ECHL
Jeremy Helvig
Likely a pro contract signing (e.g., Jeremy Smith) or Eetu Makiniemi

Others
Pyotr Kochetkov - Assuming he will play in the KHL for a couple of years rather than jump to NA right away. Probably available to our org sometime around 2021.
Jack LaFontaine - Finishing college, available fall 2020
Eetu Makiniemi - In the Jokerit system, will probably look to advance there before coming to NA. Probably available fall 2020.
Jake Kucharski - Looks like he had a rough year in the USHL. Assuming he goes back to that level, maybe available fall 2020 or beyond.
Cedrick Andree, Sam Harvey, Anthony Popovich - Camp invitees who could possibly be picked up as FAs.

After a year in the BCHL, and a very good one at that, LaFontaine is headed to Minnesota. It will be interesting to see if his second NCAA stint is better than his 1st.

Kucharski, I believe, is headed to Providence if my memory serves. In both cases they will have an opportunity to get back on track. Kooch more so than LaFontaine who seemed to do a pretty fair job of reviving his prospects in the "B".

if we're looking at big targets in free agency, anders lee would be awesome.
Lee seems to be a quintessential Brindy guy and leader.
7 years would take him to 35. Risky. At least we can count on him to shut down teams if he isn’t scoring in his older age.
Nino-Aho-Turbo
Svech-Lee-Necas
McGinn-Staal-Williams/Foegele
Martinook-Wallmark-Foegele/Marleau

Center is a really big strength for us with that lineup.

I'm fairly sure Lee is left wing only

I mean, ideally, wouldn't you draft well enough that you rarely or never have to sign free agents?

If Willy does retire, yes, that will suck, but my immediate reaction isn't "OMG we *have* to sign a free agent to replace him." We should probably think of Svech as being the guy to replace him (statistically anyway) and Necas to be the guy who replaces Svech's production on the 3rd line, and Wallmark/Foegele to improve as well, and so on.

Obviously that's only sustainable if you draft well, but we do seem to be drafting well.
