I’m curious who do Canes fans want to see in net this season?

Who do you think you will end up with in net this season?

Thanks

Drafting a 20 year old Kochetkov changes the outlook a bit. Realistically he could be in the NHL in 2-3 years. Which means the Canes only need a 2-3 year stopgap while Nedeljkovic develops as a backup and gets his shot.

Ideally I'd just sign Mrazek at $3-4 millon x 2-3 years

The biggest question for the Canes remains (IMHO) Aho's contract. I'm assuming he gets in the range of $9-10M.

Let's assume Williams is also back at around $3.5M or so per year. Buy out Marleau barring a miracle.

That really only leaves you around $8M or so before you reach the cap, with only 9 forwards and 6 d-men. Move Necas and Bean up, buy out darling and you have close to $9M left to fill at least two forward spots and both of your goaltenders.

I really don't see how Carolina doesn't trade one of their D-men for help at forward, if nothing else to clear up cap space and improve up front. My guess is that's Faulk, but I'd almost rather see De Haan with Fleury and Bean almost ready of the show.

Now, I'm somewhat of a novice Canes fan, so a lot of my assumptions here may be wrong.

After reflecting on the Marleau trade, I've been thinking that might have played into the willingness to ship out Faulk starting after their conversations Friday morning. They probably had discussions with Toronto already at that point. Ship out Faulk for whatever, and let our young D, perhaps a guy like Priskie, and perhaps a cheap vet signing fight it out for cheap 6-7 dmen spots.

It's been a while since I paid attention to the cap ceiling, but I believe one option the FO has in case they're starving for cap space is to offer Williams performance bonuses. He is eligible being 35+, presumably signing a 1 year deal. That would allow them to push off some of that contract to a Marleau-less 20-21. Running the numbers, it's doable to retain everyone sans McGinn, but the forward acquisition would have to be Haula-cheap and Nedeljkovic would have to be the backup.

It should be fun to watch here. Even if Faulk goes, they're going to have to spend in the upper 70s to early 80s to ice a competitive team.

When is the deadline to make qualifying offers to RFAs to retain their rights?

I imagine that’s any day now with Wednesday being the start of the RFA interview period. Think there’s anyone that doesn’t get a QO?

What's the window to buy out Darling? I'm starting to worry we're seriously considering giving him a 3rd chance. I know he's had it rough lately with his father passing on top of all the other ****, and you don't want to kick someone when they're down, but sometimes that's business (my dad once got laid off the day we got back from vacation - lots of money spent and used PTO that could have been saved)

Started June 15, will end June 30 (5 pm NY time).

In the very unlikely event that there is a Canes-related Salary Arbitration, there may be a second window after it's settled.

'Tis a day for interesting rumors, I suppose. We're reportedly one of three teams with a meeting scheduled with Duchene.

File that one under "Tom Dundon so cheap..."

Good to hear Duchene is a target. I doubt Carolina will out bid Nashville but make the offer and see how things go.

I do wonder how much can be fit with Marleau on the books for 19-20, buyout or not the cap hit is the same.

Is it time for the salary cap thread?

Carolina can definitely outbid Nashville for Duchene, they have a bigger eye on Josi than the eye we have on Aho. The only problem is, the money it takes to outbid Nashville turns into a bad contract on our end right away.

Much more notable than the fact that we're targeting him is the fact that we're one of three teams with a meeting with the player. Players and agents do not accept those meetings lightly, it means we're in the top tier of bidders and that Duchene is quite serious about exploring Carolina as an option.
