Salary Cap has apparently been released at $81.5 million. Great for the Canes

I wonder if the Leafs and Canes could have an understanding of a future deal. Leafs get Marleau's Cap relief now for leverage to sign their RFAs before offer sheets hit. Maybe Carolina trades them back their 1st(+ RHD or futures) after their roster is ironed out for a piece like Nylander or Kapanen.

Based on Sara Civ’s latest article it sounds like there is interest from the Priskie camp in signing with CAR contingent on Faulk not being there, thus theoretically opening a potential spot for Priskie. And that CAR is confident enough that Faulk will be gone to have at least reached out to Priskie. Sounds eerily similar to the Fox situation, but with a much quicker potential resolution by 8/15 of this year at least.

The fact that there will still be a Pesce/Hamilton and eventually TVR on the right side seems to not factor in?

So you're telling me that Faulk can Faulk off?

If Faulk and eating Marleau for a year = Nylander than yes. If its Kapanen, just keep the pick. The 2020 draft is stacked.

From Sara’s latest Athletic article:

Waddell sounded significantly more optimistic about Sebastian Aho’s contract than he did a few days ago.

“We met with his representation yesterday and had a great discussion for about an hour or so,” he said. “I think things are going to move along. These kinds of deals aren’t going to happen in June or July, they’re probably going to happen later in the summer. But the good thing is I don’t think we’re terribly far apart, and they want to get a deal done as much as we want to get a deal done. There are a lot of things going on around the league we’re trying to monitor and pay attention to. In time we will get it done.”

Adam Gold is not really the guy I want to turn to when I want my hockey coverage or any other coverage tbh.

All I know is when the playoffs started Faulk turned it up a notch. He may not have been our 2nd best D during the regular season but he was easily our 2nd best during the playoffs - and not that far behind Slavin IMO.

Faulk's physicality is tailor made for the playoffs and is something we do not have anywhere else on D right now, which is why I'd be happy to keep/extend him and deal with his occasional derpy moments.

They have the asset depth in the organization to forgo a Braun-like return, treating Faulk as an own-rental. He provides value to the team and that will particularly be true for the first few months of the season with the conservative estimate of de Haan's recovery time meaning a late November return.

I'm interested in seeing what happens with Myers July 1. If that number comes in softer than expected, in term and/or dollars, you may see the two sides back at the table.

It was a great draft but I understand the frustration. We go from Nylander and Ehlers talk all summer to it looks like jack shit for forward improvement. The RD returns for Braun and Subban were extremely weak and the lack of a cap announcement all probably hurt.

I still want Faulk dealt. When you have a solid top 2 I would prefer the 3rd pair be used to rotate in our young players. I think we've stagnated our RD somewhat and it didn't help Fox's decision.

The last four years we've gone to the draft with hopes of picking guys up for picks, and every year we've been at least a bit disappointed that way. It doesnt seem to be the market we think it is. Last year we couldnt find a dancing partner until the big trade, which wasnt pick oriented. Francis tried for two years and no one really bit. The negativity against Francis was off base as he wanted to make moves just like we have the last two years, takes two to tango. Two years now the new regime has tried the same. No dice.

Not that I'm concerned about getting something done, it may just be using next years picks next week.

Obviously this is all hypothetical, but provided we could get Faulk locked in at something close to what Hamilton is making now, would you do a 1 for 1 Hamilton and Nylander trade?

Damn, you know the team is doing well when the idiots (Maple Leaf fans) go out of their way to let you know how irrelevant a team we are on the main boards.

One of them tried to tell me earlier today the Leafs had a better season than us, because they took the Bruins to 7 games but we got swept by the Bruins.

I mean....you can't even deal with these people on normal planes of logic.

But don't point that out, because they'll report your post and then you get warnings even though they were the ones being jackasses in the first place.

I forgot how "wonderful" the main board can be.

They've won 3 more playoff games in the past 15 years than we did... This year

Let that sink in for a few.

I'd have my pen out and be signing the deal before you even finished the sentence.

It's not that I dislike Hamilton by any means either; but he's the one guy we could live without and yet probably get a really good player in return at the same time, barring another insane Rask-for-Nino type of situation.
