Did everyone forget about Bunting … Calder finalist with 63 points and Dubas likes him. This is the 3rd time Dubas acquired Bunti
Man I could be a Calder finalist playing with Marner and Matthews.

Not actually though, I'm pretty terrible. But a 63 point peak playing with two of the top offensive producers in the NHL that falls right down when you're removed from them isn't that impressive. Bunting has a really high motor and is an NHL player, but at 4.5 million he's overpaid.

I'll say this about the irritating Ehlers usage shitshow that HFJets has seen recently (that I've been a major contributor in lol)...

It's opened my eyes to the idea that we need another play driver in the top 6. I think schief and ehlers are our top two, so it's understandable in a sense why they'd split them up despite their success together

I think the org may have thought (or still thinks) that Cole is the answer, but this season hasn't been kind to that idea

Having a play driver on the 2nd line would allow bones to deploy schief and ehlers more often if needed.

It's probably not a problem you solve at the deadline, but I'll be curious to see what (if anything) chevybdoes to address this moving forward in the offseason. 2C is still a major concern, and even if we manage to extend Monahan for 3 years (which would be my ideal), that line still needs someone to push it forward if Ehlers is gonna get bumped up. Since not all of Connor, Vilardi and Perfetti could play with Ehlers and Shief in that scenario, and none of them can drive line 2... one must be expendable to get that asset, no? Especially with Lambert and McG knocking on the "non-line driving top 6 winger" door

I'm curious to see the difference between Bunting and Guentzel from now to the end of the year. I don't doubt Guentzel is the better player, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that he was boosted significantly by one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.
Guentzel is quite a bit better than Bunting imo, but this is always a big risk. Like what is the actual value of Zack Hyman on any team other than EDM, TOR, COL? Its a mystery for sure.

Then the cycle conitinues. The core 3 are gone, they dwell in the basement for 5-7 years. Get a generational talent. Rinse, repeat.
If they could trade Crosby, Malkin, Letang, etc they could get a ton of picks and rebuild pretty fast. However, I think those players might be fine with retiring as Penguins.

I don't disagree at all, I'm a big fan of Guentzel, I'm just interested to see him separate from Crosby for the first time in his career. His defensive numbers are bad to the point where it's interesting to compare them to Connor's. Connor's are a little worse but Crosby helps defensive numbers more than Scheifele. It'll be a fun experiment.

So many trades for unshocking returns yet Chevy has been silent. Wonder if us being on some many NTC/NMCs really is the issue.
Any unschocking return was also missed by 31 other general managers. Winnipeg being an undesirable destination doesn't help anything. It's the reason we can't throw away prospects like Vegas, we need to rely on homegrown talent to be competitive, Vegas can just sign UFAs to recoup that value.

For sure. If Bunting is playing with Crosby and getting PP1 time, I wouldn't be surprised if his and Guentzel's production for the remaining games is comparable.

The thing with Guentzel though is he may not have a Crosby in Carolina but they have plenty of very good players for him to play with, I think he will do very well there
