Yeah, the NHLPA will never let it happen but the NHL needs to either limit the number of NTCs a team can have or just make them full no movement — no waiving, no limited number of teams. Otherwise markets like Winnipeg will always, always get shafted.

They already do limit them - by making them available only to players who have put in 7 seasons or reached the age of 27.

Mitts didn't have trade protection. Avs are demonstrating going all in.

Yes but does anyone see Bones actually using a raw rookie with no playoff experience heading into the playoffs? I certainly don't.
Not a chance. He trusts toninato more than ehlers. It won’t happen (for meaningful time) might happen in an emergency on 4th line.

I went all in on season tickets ‘cause jet’s said they were too…..lol. Colorado must have seen the jets commercials.

That doesn’t seem like bowness’s style. Throw kids with no nhl experience into the playoffs in a meaningful role.

Not sure I’d count on that. I think mcgroarty will be a jet in April. He’ll only see playing time in an emergency.
McGroarty might be ready? Dominant player with a lot of intangibles this season. It is certainly not unheard of for freshly signed NCAA players to go onto have meaningful impacts for their teams in the NHL playoffs.

Another winger isn't going to do much imo. We could use a D upgrade and potentially another plus center imo.
I agree - another winger is a waste of time - we are not going to match up well offensively with the top dogs in the west by adding a winger.
We do need to tighten up our blueline - the team can play good d structure (5v5) - it only breaks down when good teams gain our zone and play tick tack toe while our d chase them around the zone, finally get possession and then give it back to them. Another winger won't help with that and IMO, our biggest issue when we are playing well, is our dzone coverage and outlets.

I agree with you.

I’ve never seen anything to suggest bones would - if you can make me coach I’ll make sure he gets playing time! Bye apples!

(Note - if you do have the power to make that happen it’s very likely we wouldn’t win another game. )

True - that was me speculating michigans run - and time for signing.

I should have said - likely won’t happen until April.
ELCs usually don't take a lot of time negotiating. Max salary, max signing bonus and the performance bonuses have pretty tight parameters.

Prices are very reasonable now... I'm sure Chevy is value shopping

The question is what need are these guys filling on edmonton - their issues is that they have no D after their first pairing... henrique is not a defensive player and he's not an upgrade over RNH...

But RNH plays wing AFAIK.

Perfetti was playing in the top 6 at a younger age then McGroarty.

Yeah and can't find his way back there with the playoffs looming. He's replaced him with an equally cold vet and that with 11 less points on the year. That line hasn't done any better with Iafallo vs. Perfetti.

If it were up to me I'd be playing both but it looks like Bones is vetting up heading towards.

Has he ever had top 6 minutes?

Regardless, he had played 20 nhl games when bones inherited him, and he went through all of training camp to get there.

trust is everything it seems with bones. I have seen nothing really to the contrary, and perfetti playing doesn’t contradict that IMO.

You seem to think otherwise, which is totally fine, if I was betting either my mortgage or a dollar I’d bet on him not playing. I hope he does though!

Perfetti has it a wall, I think he finds his way back but it likely takes awhile. McGoarty will be pretty fresh and fits the mold almost perfectly for what Bones is looking for. Personally I see him signing and being given a ton of opportunity down the stretch. Should be a easy sell for Chevy, tangling a carrot of an ELC year and a chance to be part of an NHL playoff drive.

What do you think it would cost? Would Montreal's 2nd and Lucius get it done?

Almost as good as some of the 1sts that have been traded. Loosh still has high potential if he can ever get past the injury bug. Should be more than enough really. Vatrano is neither a C nor a top pairing Dman. (OK, Byram isn't either but it seems Buffalo doesn't know that yet.)

Oh man…..lol.

You think it’s reasonable to assume his run ends, he signs with Winnipeg the next day and is in town and on the team?

In the past - these things usually take some time to sort out. But I’m not a contract expert. Nor do I know if mcgroarty has options he wants to weigh to make his decision. There has been some speculation he may not sign if they don’t win a championship - he’d go back for one more year. Who knows though.

Regardless, I think conservatism is typically a more sound assumption.

What has been your experience/ knowledge for how long it takes from an NCAA player to be knocked out or done playing college to signing and joining their team?

Well we shall see. I think he signs but think it's just as likely they send him go the Moose for a run to the playoffs.

The signing bonus may be tricky depending on who we bring in by Friday.

also all these teams accepting deals w/ Vegas... other teams offering shitty deals or what? i guess Hanifin's extension can be a quasi-NTC.
