Winnipeg
Retain 50% and we'll park his ass in his one timer PP spot and play him against the weakest comp 5v5. They can have our 1st I suppose :sarcasm:
I'm kind of serious thinking he may be a good add for us. We'd have our killer PP back, and we have the depth and systems to cover up for his defense. Wheeler is now gone and we still have his best buddy Ehlers

He'd be all sour because he'd be behind Vilardi on the depth chart.

What would it cost to get Batherson out of Ottawa?
A 1st and ???

Batherson and (Tarasenko at 50% retained) for a 1st in 2024, a 2nd in 2025, Barron and Kup?

Where do you play him at 5v5 though? Doubt he'd be happy in sheltered minutes in a bottom-6 role, and the team is too strongly built on defense for the coach to let Laine be Laine. I don't think CBJ has any interest in retaining on him for 3 years so it is kinda beside the point.'

The Jets do have the assets to make a competitive offer (1st + Iafallo + Rashevsky) for Laine @ 50% retained but not sure if that's the best use of those assets.

Boone Jenner as a second line centre might work well for the Jets, two more seasons at 3.75M fits in well. He does have a M-NTC which probably end that conversation. No interest in Laine or Provorov
He'd be alright but I think we need a 2C with more O in his game.

Scored over 20 goals the last to seasons and on his way to that this year, I think he would flourish with the wingers we have.
He'd probably break 50 points playing in our top 6 but he hasn't yet.
I like him a lot as a player, just not our 2C.

I don't like this logic for the same reason I don't like the logic that Lindholm would get an offensive jump; they're both getting more offensive opportunity on their respective teams than they would here, why would they be able to do more with less?

Also, Jenner is incredibly injury prone.

People get caught in the narrative that you don't win Stanley cups by making deadline moves. The fact is only 1 team wins the cup so if you make that argument you can point to a lot of teams moves that failed

BUT

Look at every past winner. They all made a trade or two to help. So we are likely to make a move or two, maybe its a big splash but maybe it isn't.
I expect the Jets to make a couple of moves, even if they aren't huge. They'll almost certainly add on D (probably RD), to cover for potential injuries. I also expect that they'll look for middle-6 F, preferably a C. Chevy seems to like the idea of acquiring players at the TDL that have a bit of term, so they give value for more than one playoff season (like Nino).

It will depend a lot on how the trade market plays out. The Jets have more cap space and a much more diverse set of picks and prospects than most contenders, so they might be well-positioned in the market.

There's an article in the Sun talking about possible trade targets. Calgary seems to have something that could improve our team.

Lindholm and Tanev to the Jets for Heinola and Gus. We give Calgary some prospects that are NHL ready and we get veteran quality and skill. Knowing the Jets would have to compete against others, we'd probably have to throw in a condition 1st/2nd?

We probably have to move Schmidt and Someone from the bottom 6 to make room too.

I don’t think Jenner would be available yet, but if he were, I’d be surprised if he turned his nose up to joining this team.

The more I think about it, Wennberg seems like a Chevy type of move similar to the Namestnikov acquisition.

If Seattle sells, he could be a solid pick up. Not the big sexy splash some want, but a decent addition.

He still a very smart and speedy player.

I’d be good with Erik Johnson as a buy low depth defensman pick up. Shouldn’t cost more than a later pick or a “C” prospect.
