Yes, I just posted a potential NJD trade that didn't look great for us - but I was forgetting that Helle's new contract won't kick in for a year. That makes the cap issues a lot easier to work around.

Re-igniting that discussion:

Jersey's 2024 and 2025 firsts have conditions on them from the Meier trade, so the best we can do for an "unencumbered" pick seems to be a 2025 2nd.

Vanecek, Holtz and Marino is better. We might then get a 25 2nd for Plonk from somebody. OK, maybe 3rd is more realistic, after we retain salary. Jersey has Nemec to fit in on the right side.

Most impactful signing of the day is Ilya Sorokin signing that 8yr x $8.25m contract. Immediately quells Hellebuyck's hopes of getting anything above ~10-11% of next year's cap - people think it's going to be as high as $87.5m, but as we see every year with the NHL's estimates, it inevitably never is, so I don't think he'll get that $9m he desires. IMO, Hellebuyck probably wants a Cup more than he wants money, so I could see a team calling about 37 a bit more now and seeing where his head is at.

NJD still makes the most sense to me, and they definitely may have the means to fit his current contract this season and likely future contract moving forward.

Roster is largely set save for the two key players. Surprised we didn't see a Stanley trade. Maybe that still materializes as a sweetener on a Mark or Helle trade.
