Did the Dodgers get this Japanese guy too?

That's f***ing brutal for NJPW. Ospreay, Switchblade, Shibata and now one half of what was essentially the heart and soul of modern day NJPW (him and Tanahashi) gone within the span of a year. This one being a monumental loss.

Dark times for that company between the exodus and Sanada's title reign allegedly being a dud at the box office.

It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. The ties in AEW are super strong given he's close with the Bucks, and the schedule could be more desirable given the absolute shitkicking Japanese stars tend to take. WWE should and probably will pull out all the stops to bring him in the fold. I think i'd personally rather see him in the fed with Triple H in charge and understanding of the draw/power he has. Gut wants WWE, head says AEW.

Absolutely insane news though. Guessing by Tony's tweet saying it's gonna be a great 2024 followed by the other tweet it definitely seems he's confident he's got Okada locked up.

I'm sure they'd throw a big "threat" like Austin Theory at him before having a big grudge match with the Miz.
Realistically I don't think AEW or WWE are able to make Okada as big of a deal as he was in Japan. I have my doubts he would be pushed to the top of the card in WWE.
I'd be shocked if Tony doesn't hand him a blank check. I know nothing about international wrestling, but one thing's for sure. When one is this hyped, he makes sure to add them.

In terms of star power, who is the North American equivalent of Okada? Trying to get an idea of how big a deal him leaving is.

Japanese Cena/Triple H. Biggest Japanese star in quite some time.

I don’t think he will have the same star power over here though- don’t need him to be to have a successful run though

I do agree with Okada won't be presented as well as NJPW. Not really anyone's fault, it's just that NJPW has a knack for that sort of thing especially when they don't have a weekly show.

Could see him go to AEW since he has a history with them. Could see him go to WWE with Nakamura. Maybe Billy Corgan's NWA . . . . . . . nvm

I would say it’s the equivalent of Cena leaving WWE in his prime.

He's a bigger star in Japan than Triple H ever was in NA and million times better in the ring. Cena is a better comparison but again Okada is a way, way better wrestler.

just making the comparison in terms of them being the clear top dogs in the company for awhile, like Okada has been in NJPW

I find the casuals over here in the states don’t care about work rate unless it’s truly atrocious so it’s nice that Okada is a sensational in-ring talent, I just don’t think it will lift how he’s viewed if he signs in the WWE. AEW fans would appreciate the work rate more imo

Yeah,Triple H was definitely the top dog in WWE for a period of time. I completely agree with your second paragraph.

People forget there was a period where Triple H had a case for being one of the best in ring workers in the world pre-quad injury.

A lot of that is drowned out by the fact that he decided he needed to be the center of the universe from 2000-early 2005. Nothing says "RATINGS" like a Ric Flair wannabe meandering to the ring and cutting a promo about "THIS BUSINESSUHHH" for 15-25 minutes to open almost every Raw.

If he came to WWE, obviously people would want him to work with Nakamura right away. Orton too as thats a long standing cross company dream match.

But I would have him go straight for Gunther.
Depends. Am i getting the Orton that gives a shit? or the i'm just gonna goof off Randy?

Because locked in Orton vs Okada at Mania sounds like money to me.

i have a hard time seeing Okada in WWE (great in-ring storyteller, but his character isn't cartoonish) but my opinion is based on what Vince thinks and not how Nick Khan does business

Supposedly AEW is the favourite to land him but WWE is very interested in him obviously and Wrestlemania is a pull. AEW side he trusts Danielson and the Bucks a lot and the money along with the ability to live wherever he wants is appealing.

HHH is in charge of the creative, ultimately he's the one that makes the decisions what talent they want. Or to put it this way, if HHH wants Okada, do you really think Nick Khan is going to say to him, "No."?
buddy if i write you a screenplay do you think i get to say who gets to play the characters
