Yeah, barring a freefall, we're locked into a first round with them. They're not trading with us this year.

If he hits UFA and wants us, I doubt we'd do that 13M number. I might like it, if only because it forces a move on Palat and Dougie. Maybe even Mercer. But after Luke, we're close to the limit on top end guys and I question a continuing cap rise into what's looking like a very tough global economy.

MAF is now 2nd all-time in games played by a goalie

....still 200+ games behind Marty for #1 lmao

Still pretty impressive he’s going to end two years earlier than Marty and never played 70 in a season and you factor in missed time with covid and the following year. I know I’m the only one on here thinking his wins record will fall that’s fine I def was the only one on here saying ovie would break the goal record.

There isn't a chance in hell anyone ever breaks the wins record. Goalies just do not play enough games for as long as Marty did, on a team that was that successful.

Marty was a complete freak of nature.

Yep.

If any goalie had a some sort of theoretical chance it was Fleury. He played in the NHL starting at 19. Starting in his 3rd year his teams made the playoffs every season. He’s been incredibly durable with few injuries.

And Fluery is still 118 wins behind Brodeur. Brodeur has too many +40 win seasons, it’s impossible to gain ground on him.

And that’s despite there being ties until Brodeur was 33 and all the lost games due to 3 lockouts.

Since 1984-85
There’s been 75 single seasons with +70 GP (goalies) by 34 goalies (none by Fleury)
18 goalies have 1
6 goalies have 2
6 goalies have 3
2 goalies have 4 (Lundqvist & Luongo)
1 goalie has 7 (Kiprusoff)
1 goalie has 12 (Brodeur)

There’s been 49 single seasons with +40 wins by 30 goalies:
21 goalies have 1
4 goalies have 2 (Belfour, Fleury, Luongo, Miller)
4 goalies have 3 (Holtby, Kiprusoff, Nabokov, Rinne)
1 goalie has 8 (Brodeur)

This is wins for goalies up to age 30. (post 2000 goalies + Brodeur highlighted)

Marty also had the benefit of coming up right at the start of the team's window which ended up being what, 17 or 18 years long? We were very good for a very long time. I know initially post-lockout we stumbled but we still managed to get to the finals in 2012 (and should have won!!! Fayne puck hop and Kovy crossbar in games 1 and 2!)

Rumors going around that Matthew Tkachuk could be done for the year.

No idea why they played him in the final, he was clearly hurt and provided nothing because of it. Should have had him behind the bench as a player coach instead and used Connor. The medical and coaching staff really suck for team USA.

The Canucks really gotta get rid of Tocchet behind the bench. The chatter about Pettersson (Elias, forward) is very similar to what we heard about Clayton Keller in Arizona. Guess what caused the latter to improve drastically.

Weekes reported the offer the canes made was 13/14 a year. Goes to show you there are destinations players just want to avoid.

If the report is true and if he doesn’t take it.
There are definitely destinations players would prefer to go to or not go to. I think what we are seeing is a player that has no reason to rush and sign when he was just traded and doesn’t have a connection to the team as he did with Colorado and the years he spent there. He could also be waiting for the official word on the rising Cap and what he and his agent have to work with. Why sign now when he can wait a few months and get the same offer the Canes are giving him but have 5-8 destinations to choose from?

For the record… Raleigh is great place to live and play hockey but who knows how Mikko feels about that.

It's dumb to do this in the playoffs sometimes but at least the excuse there is that the replacement isn't very good, it's beyond stupid to do this in a best-on-best tournament when you have a replacement who is also one of the best scorers in the league. Just dumb Willis Reed macho shit, if a guy can't play, don't let him play.

If it’s a groin pull the it all makes a little more sense as groin pulls can feel good until they don’t and you don’t really damage them more, you just re-aggravate.

As for actually playing, he should have bowed out of the championship game. Despite his groin likely feeling a little bit better, even the pregame skate would have let him know it was going to get bad again if he pushed it.

it wont be easy at all but i think maf proves its doable. you come into the league with a good team window opening you either stay with them and ride it for however like marty or you get dealt off to another teams window opening and continue piling up the stats like maf did. i dont see any work stops happening anytime soon to limit the player you factor in expansion and water down talent pool plus the expansion of the playoffs which i think is coming. it wont be easy but if someone was to get "close" can definitely see them sticking around to try and eeek out the record on crappy teams.

goal record is going to fall and mcdavid will have a decent shot at the points record but a lot would have to go right. goalies are harder but they keep getting better and better just like the skaters

I feel like MAF shows it’s incredibly unlikely to the point of saying not doable is reasonable.

We are saying here that MAF had mostly favorable conditions but he’s still 118 wins short right now. Those 118 wins are the equivalent to 20% of his 573 total wins.

Fluery has the second most games played all-time and goalies are generally playing less now than goalies did earlier in MAF career.

So conditions are unlikely to be as favorable going forward and MAF is going to end up well behind Marty’s win total. MAF would need to be the winningiest goalie in the league for multiple seasons to catch up and that’s obviously crazy.

The wins record for a goalie looks effectively uncatchable for the foreseeable future for any goalie.

mcdavid will have a decent shot at the points record but a lot would have to go right.
McDavid does not have any shot. He’s effectively already eliminated as a possibility.

If McDavid plays 10 more seasons he will need to average 180 points per season to get to Gretzky’s point record.

The points record is currently effectively untouchable by any skater in the foreseeable future.

McDavid has zero shot. Gretzky's points record and Marty's wins are unbeatable records as you can possibly get.
