Impressive start to the season but he needs to bring it in the playoffs for me to get over last year and the salary. Against a team like Montreal I fear he'd get bodied.
In the 2018 playoffs Marner did have 9 points in 7 games against Boston and he was the Maple Leafs best player that year. So he has brought it in a previous playoff series and I do agree he needs to be better than the 2019 playoffs which was also against Boston.

Marner has more playoff points as a leaf than anyone on the roster.
One deep run could put him in the top 10 in leaf history

Please stop posting facts

You are ruining the bias of some posters. Lets keep going the imaginary facts that marner hasn’t been good this year.

Leading the league in scoring but he gave the puck away on a play.

Some people are brain dead.

After you mentioned that I looked up Marner's career stats against Montreal and saw that he has 13 assists against them in 15 games played.

So I was more surprised that Montreal is the only team who Marner has never scored against them. Although with 9 more games to be played against them I would be surprised if he doesn't score any goals when playing them this season.

Technically John Tavares has 30 points in 36 playoff games, although you need to take into account he also has playoff history with the Islanders.

However between players the Leafs drafted Marner's 21 career playoff points is more than Matthews 19 points and Nylander's 15 points.

I get that, Montreal is different now though. In the playoffs, Marner has produced but he also gets tossed around the ice at will. He tried a lot harder than the other stars on the team but we will need him to be a star to win.

Sorry bout that.
I get their sentiment but it would be best served with a statement like "The leafs need to put up more points in the playoffs" rather at an individual who happens to have the better record at doing so.

Yeah...Im talking about people playing in a leaf uniform

I’ll go with the experts. Cassidy the coach of the bruins loves marner. We knock him down every shift and he picks himself up and goes after the puck like a hound. Cassidy has great respect for marner.

Cooper from Tampa bay said marner is one of the best players he has ever seen.

Marner will also do whatever it takes to win in the playoffs like when he blocked these two shots from David Pastrnak when Toronto won Game 3 against Boston in 2019.

He said he's one of the smartest players he's seen, not best.

You would think Matthews might have the most playoff points when you factor in the 4 goals he had in 2017 against Washington, 1 goal against Boston in 2018, 5 goals against Boston in 2019, and 2 against Columbus in 2020.

However I guess you can say it was Marner's 9 points in 2018 that put him 1st among Maple Leafs players they drafted in the total points category.

This is what Cooper said about Marner.

Cooper: Marner ‘as smart a player’ NHL’s ‘ever seen’ - TSN.ca

"The one thing about Marner is he is as smart a player as this league has not only seen this year, has ever seen," Cooper proclaimed. "And somebody that can elude defenders and do the things he can does with the puck on the offensive side of it, it translates to the defensive side as well."

Probably the most memorable playoff moment for some time. Heart of a lion, on and off the ice.

Oh don’t worry he will get two points tonight and give the puck away and the naysayers will be telling us they were secondary points.lol

Someone made fun of the fact marner got two assists last game on fluke goals. These geniuses don’t realize that hockey is a game of chances at time. Maybe these flukey
Points even out from when Mitch makes an amazing play and sets someone up for a tip in and they miss the puck or hit the post.

When my son played hockey he was always worried about scoring a flukey goal. I explained it to him like this.

When you listen to tv and they give the score they say the leafs won 3-1. They don’t say the leafs won but they scored two flukey goals.

Mitch is by far our most exciting player.

Those people don't realize that Marner's assist on the 1st goal scored by Muzzin was a primary assist and it's not his fault that the shot was deflected off a Flames player and into the net.

Besides that Marner made a great play to get into the Flames end before making that pass to Muzzin.

Even though Marner's shot blocks was a memorable moment, I think his penalty shot goal in Game 1 is better since it gave Toronto a 2-1 lead and they won 4-1. So that ended up being the game winning goal.

How sad is that hughson call on the goal. He sounded like he was
Constipated and hadn’t shit in a week. No enthusiasm at all in his voice. Sad

I've coached more NHL games than both and I like Marner too.

The pros all get it, this place is embarrassing at times. He deserves criticism here and there but man this place.... I love watching him play.

Wouldn't you agree that Marner is off to a better start compared to last season?

I don't remember exactly how the first 7 games went last season but what does it matter? Like any other player, Marner should be trying to be the best player he can be today no matter what happened last season.
