Speculation: All Purpose LA Kings 2013-14 Trade Speculation/Rumors Part V

I'd hate to see Pearson go. And a 1st? I don't like this deal. We would essentially be giving up the farm for Ehrhoff. Not good.

Moulson is rumored to be a pure rental. He doesn't like Lombardi and won't stay in Los Angeles (still bitter after all this time), despite his relationship to Quick. So that makes it worse.

If you can get Moulson and Ehrhoff for Greene, Pearson and a 1st, you pull the trigger, no doubt.

I have been very critical of Pearson, but the kid does look like he will make it in the NHL.

He would be a lot to give up for 5 or 6 weeks of Moulson or Vanek. Now Ehrhoff, that would be a different story.

I'm not surprised with Pearson's development, but he's not close to being where Moulson or Vanek are right now. So, as much as I'd hate to give up a Pearson for a possible rental, I'd still do the deal.

I just wished Vanek was still in BUFF and not NYI. I would love the Vanek & Ehrhoff acquisition.

Dean has a lot to weigh here. It's not like the Kings window is slamming shut any time soon if he keeps the current roster and then uses his cap space to address a couple of holes in the off season.

Then again, how many times does a team have a legit shot at winning a cup?

I have to admit that unless an absolute bargain falls in his lap, I would like to stick with what we have.

Exactly. The marginal upgrade (I'm not even sure it is one) from Toffoli-->Moulson sees the team actually decline sooner, as does upgrading to Ehrhoff. It makes us more experience and solidifies "win now," but it makes us older, whereas keeping the kids around ensures we go all DET on everyone for a while longer. I too prefer that we stay in the hunt for a while than treat this year as if it's one last hurrah somehow.

Edit: to me, the bigger issue with dumping assets for a rental is losing both those assets AND the rental at years end. Then, this offseason, we're stuck with bigger holes and less assets? Doesn't seem like DLs style.

If you fix a problem on the defensive side you get the benefit of reinforcing offensive strength. Build from the back and up the middle....

Pearson finally looked like a real NHL prospect. OTOH, he could be having that rookie flash (no bad thing!) that wears off after a couple of months. Toffoli is the one who looks lost. He has not looked irreplaceable for months now. Maybe he's just going through his sophmore slump early. One can only hope.

Toffoli is the one who looks lost. He has not looked irreplaceable for months now. Maybe he's just going through his sophmore slump early. One can only hope.

Really? He looked mediocre back in January, I'll grant you that, but he's been chipping in pretty effectively for the past 6 or 7 games, at even strength and on the powerplay.

Kings have won five in a row. If we do nothing, I can't see people getting angry and rioting in the streets if we stand pat.

Given our cap space issues, standing pat may be our only option.

Kings aren't going to shake up their team, not when they are just beginning to show signs of being a Stanley Cup contender again.

I would bet given our cap space limitations and other teams' demands, the Kings don't make a big splash by noon tomorrow.

Islanders' fans need to come to grips with reality. Word from Nick Nickson last night is no way Grabner gets moved now after all the rumors swirling that Moulson, Vanek, and even McDonald might be traded.

Sell, sell, sell, Islanders. You hit your peak last season (who would have thought that?), and fell apart at the beginning of this one.

Greene I get. I hate to say it, but he is really done.

Pearson has been a question mark for me but last night he played very well. I see flashes of the player he can be. Don't want to give up on him this fast.

This reminds me of a story I once heard about the Bulls asking the Lakers for Kobe Bryant in exchange for some of their garbage players.

Jerry West, who is the nicest guy in the business, hung up on them without another word.

Everything I have read and heard is that Toffoli is untouchable.

Idk. We're in a tough position. 5 game winning streak doesn't erase how badly this team sucked for over a month previously. We still should try our best to make a move. But if it really is Toffoli as the main asking price, then our hands are tied.
