I just don't see how that works with the cap hits. How does LA take on that much? This deal doesn't work.

Apparently Buffalo is not allowed by league rules to retain anymore salaries, they are at their maximum right now of 3.

So agree, not sure how a deal like that can be pulled off.

Maybe Greene for Erhoff, plus a prospect is doable. But if you add Moulson, another big salary would need to go back.

Islanders' fans need to come to grips with reality. Word from Nick Nickson last night is no way Grabner gets moved now after all the rumors swirling that Moulson, Vanek, and even McDonald might be traded.

Sell, sell, sell, Islanders. You hit your peak last season (who would have thought that?), and fell apart at the beginning of this one.

We fell apart because we have abysmal ownership and management. The talent is still there. We need a change in coaching, acquire a real goalie and shore up the defense next season.

We are not as awful as we appear but can definitely sink fast with the current regime in place.

Our defense should be solid and deep in a few seasons with Reinhart, Pulock, Pokka, Pelech, deHaan, Hamonic, so losing McDonald is no great loss. Vanek or Moulson would have left via Free Agency so what we get at the trade deadline is gravy.

It's throwing away the 1st and 2nd picks to Buffalo and the mismanagement of the Nino and his subsequent trade that riles most Isles fans.

It's been a long season........

If you fix a problem on the defensive side you get the benefit of reinforcing offensive strength. Build from the back and up the middle....

Pearson finally looked like a real NHL prospect. OTOH, he could be having that rookie flash (no bad thing!) that wears off after a couple of months. Toffoli is the one who looks lost. He has not looked irreplaceable for months now. Maybe he's just going through his sophmore slump early. One can only hope.

Toffoli was absolutely awful with Richards even against lesser competition. With Kopitar he looks a little more dangerous. I think Toffoli still has a lot of work to do as far as being stronger on the puck, but man the kid has a very quick release and has a way of finding the quiet areas to get a quick shot off.

whereas keeping the kids around ensures we go all DET on everyone for a while longer.

Ensure might be a strong word. It's great to want to be like Detroit, but what they've managed to do for 20+ years, especially with the championships involved, is rare. When Detroit was winning a Cup in 1998, were they worried about what the team would look like in 2008, before they had drafted Datsyuk and Zetterberg in later rounds in 1998 and 1999?

I'm not saying Lombardi has to pay any price for any player. I think the Kings have a 50/50 shot to win any series against anyone in the West other than Chicago with the roster as it stands today, but if you have a shot at a Cup, sometimes you just have to take it. Although there's little reason to trade a guy like Toffoli at this point for a rental or anything like that.

I don't agree with your assessment at all. There was a brief time when the entire team was slumping that Toffoli was held off the scoresheet but for the majority of the season he looks like a mainstay in the top6.

Not really a fair assessment of TT. He was great with Richards, when the other linemate was King. However, when the other linemate was Lewis, totally different story.

Would you guys do a deal for Loui Eriksson??? Personally, I'd take Eriksson over any other forward names mentioned.

I'd gladly give 1st and Pearson for Loui.

Do you know how has Eriksson played since his concussion?

Who saw this blockbuster coming?? Totally out of left field. Just wow.

Vanek has said he is open to re-signing if it's the right fit.

Ofcourse, a mole hill is turned into a mountain with the Minnesota stuff, never been any confirmation, just messageboard talk that leads to it called "The worst kept secret in sports"

Vanek - Getzlaf - Perry would be an insanely difficult line to stop, if Anaheim went that route.

Penner for a draft pick opens up a roster spot and cap space for Anaheim to get Vanek or Gaborik in addition to the already completed Robidas deal (according to LeBrun)

The Ducks making their moves first is a huge bonus for us. We're both going after the same players, if they blow their moves early, it helps deals open up for us.

Man that's some SOLID GM work by Anaheim, we might as well not enter the playoffs if Anaheim gets Vanek.
