Lol Sutter

[Reporter: Brian Burke always said that the two times out of the year you get your fans the most interested in your team are the trading deadline and the first day of free agency.]

Sutter: I guess if you’re a bad team.

Side note...Corey Crawford talks about how his white pads and gloves were stolen while at Soldier Field. Ok who did it!

Must be a teammate, because no one else in the hockey world wants anyone but Crawford in their net :P

Disclaimer: It's a joke, don't cite his stats vs. us to me please!

Sign me up for Gaborik please. He would help the power play tremendously. Second choice: Danny Briere.

Wish we could just get ryan now. Probably cost two top prospects and 1-2 high draft picks. Someone similar to what they gave to Anaheim to get him.

Before the disappointment. (league-wide, not just here)

This year is so odd. There is such little cap space to go around amongst contenders and yet there are quite a few high quality assets being shopped around. Disappointing or not, it is definitely shaping up to be an interesting deadline just to see how it all plays out.

Can someone give me a neutral, non-skewed, opinion on MacDonald. It appears he's likely one player Dean covets and in theory could help us (LHD). Not a fan of the "Makes Muzzin look like Lidstrom!!!111!!" type posts. Perhaps Dean wants to roll him with Doughty for the future.

Part two of the discussion: http://lakingsinsider.com/2014/03/03/deadline-discussion-part-two-supply-demand-and-the-cap/

Nice thoughts highlighting some more philosophies, including double dipping, i.e. do you pay a guy more to stay because you paid a high price to get him here.

Thanks for sharing. What that article highlighted for me is that Dean, and this is said before, won't for a rental, but more than that, he won't go for a player that he sees at unfitting in the culture or for the long term success of this team. Deano is looking at this deadline not as the deadline for trades this season, reacting to our own ups and downs this season, but simply an opportunity to improve the team overall, regardless of this season.

Again, I think the target is Gaborik. Columbus might be selling, his current value is pretty low right now because of coming off injury, which only serves to reinforce his injury prone nature, and he's a soon to be FA. Lombardi has gone for Gabby before and did not succeed, so its clear that this is a guy he sees as a quality player and as a good asset. I also think that Columbus is looking for solid, veteran defense men. Cue our own pool of vets, two of which are on expiring contracts. With Martinez viable in the lineup, we can afford to trade one of them. If we add picks and a mid tier prospect (maybe two to entice Lumbus to retain salary), it could happen. I'm on record saying this before: its risky. Really really really risky. But it could pay off huge for us. The last thing we want is for Gaborik to have an amazing end to the season not on our team, and then have to go into a bidding war with other teams for him. We have a much higher opportunity of resigning him if we get him into our culture for a bit.
