This is a ridiculous scenario but hear me out.
-Miller 50% retained with extension and hoglander for Dobson (canucks then sign for $5x5)
-OEL 1.5 retained for Necas (assuming OEL would wave for a contender)(canucks sign necas $3.5x3)
-Pearson for a bag of pucks

Canucks currently have -$2.7m in cap space. With the exits of retained miller and OEL as well as the full contract of Pearson and hoglander, we would have $9.95. After the additions we would have $1.45 in cap space. (Numbers might be slightly off)

Logic for trades;
Hurricanes need LD and have surplus RW. OEL at 5.5 makes sense for a team in win now mode
NYI are under pressure to improve next season and Jt miller is exactly the type of player they need. Also their defence would still be good in the absence of Dobson. Since the NYI would no longer need to resign Dobson, they could afford signing miller.

Lineup
Kuzmenko-petey-boeser
Podz-horvat-garland
Lockwood-necas-mikheyev
Dickinson?-lazar-joshua
Hughes-dobson
Dermott-myers
Rathbone-schenn

The following season the canucks could trade Dickinson assuming he improves his game and last year was just a down year. The retention on miller also goes away so the canucks would have enough cap space to resign horvat, Kuzmenko, dermott, schenn, Burroughs, etc.

Also, they could trade the last year of myers to gain $6 mil if they wanted to make a free agent move.

Am I delusional or what?
Delusional to think the Islanders would trade Dobson ina Miller trade. Zero chance

Regardless of what Miller wants, Calgary and Vancouver as currently constructed will likely be battling all year for playoff spots. I’m not just talking about Miller here. Vancouver will not be moving anyone of consequence to a divisional competitor, likewise for the flames.
I feel like this is a myth from the past. Sure maybe the asking price is higher but if a deal makes sense for each team the division thing shouldn’t be a factor now. Look at the leafs and sens, they made a trade.

Don’t get me wrong, trades within division can happen, but usually like the leafs and sens, the two teams should be at different points in their competitive cycles. Calgary and Van this season IMO are likely in the same tier. If one falters early and falls out of playoff contention, I could see a deal happen, but not at this point in time.

They won't trade with each other when the teams more or less see themselves as competing for the same playoff spots.

Asking price is higher is a strange concept because each team, presumably, would be asking for more for the pieces they trade. Price being higher is only for long-term impact trades where one team covers a piece (like when Edmonton was trying to trade for Schneider, which would have fixed their goaltending woes in a stroke).

Not bad. Personally I’d want Jeannot and a 2023 1st as Fabro isn’t quite the RD we need.

This deal is fine if it’s Fabbro not Trenin. Also I imagine you meant 2023 1st not 2022.

Dante Fabbro, Luke Evangelista and a 2023 1st for J.T. Miller. You know what, if NSH would be okay with that, I'd say let's deal and be done with it. I want to turn the next page, and getting a local boy RD that fits the timeline, a good forward prospect and a 1st next year seals the deal imo. No reason to drag this on.

I wonder if there is a team that nobody is talking about that is looking to shake things up.
A team I was thinking about is maybe the Jets, or possibly the Kraken.

Jet's are a long shot because I don't think he would sign there, But the Kraken have the prospects and picks, and could make a decent package for Miller, and also have the cap space for a long term deal.

Just thinking out loud

Another thing...

Looking at teams who have the most Cap space, Maybe the Sabres or Anaheim could be interested?

Sabres have a ton of prospects and young players, Anaheim are in the same Boat, but maybe a bit early in the rebuild to go in with JT.

Again, Just thinking out loud!

Interesting how a single trade is now "several trades".

That Tkachuk sign and trade was literally the first in NHL history.

There was Tkachuk (sign and trade) and Fiala (trade and sign, but it was clear that the contract was agreed to beforehand). And no, Hossa for Heatley was the first lol.

Swing and a miss.

Not sure it's all that surprising given cap situations

I like the idea of Miller for Severson +

No need to take back a bad contract, Upgrades our top 4 and we have room to re-sign him. Devils can trade him now that they have Marino, and they could use Miller in their line up a lot more.

Serverson + Mukhamadullin for JT Miller

Hey, a Miller to CAR trade that finally makes sense, Gardiner + Suzuki + PHI ‘24 2nd or
Bear + Suzuki + Martinook…

Heh…

Kidding of course, but my word if they do have to take a bad contract just to move him…that’s funny. it appears the Canucks have overplayed their hand here.

The type of deal I can see Allvin going for would be to Pit, taking back Zucker who is a guy they obviously coveted in while they were there, and would fit the speed at all costs mandate.

Could we finagle some deal that uogrades the Pit lineup, and helps Can more long term?

Miller+Dickinson/Poolman for Zucker+ Picks and Prospects?

If we retained half on Miller the cap hit is a wash for this season.

Would need to be lots of picks/prospects IMO. Retaining and taking on Zucker... Potentially he could have value at TDL if we retained, but still...

I doubt either. The Jets know Miller won't re-sign, so they're out off the bat.

This type of deal doesn't fit with Seattle's long-term plan. They're building through the draft and their young players. The vets they've acquired have either come for nothing but cap space (expansion draft or UFA signings) or at a severe discount (Bjorkstrand).

Unless Allvin is planning to sell Miller at a big discount, he's not going to Seattle.

Seattle is a couple years away. They have some good players to insulate Beniers and Wright so they can develop, and one day look at add an elite end winger or two so they can compete.
