If Hellebuyck is willingly to sign for under 8.5 million on a 5 or more year deal, the Sabres need to trade Levi and more for this guy.

I really don't think people realize how good he is. The Sabres with Hellebuyck and our current NHL roster, is on par with Boston and Toronto.

This whole putting the entire franchise on the back of Levi is bat crap crazy to me. The size is a huge concern.

There’s data out there that shows Gibson having strong first half numbers followed by brutal second half numbers. Essentially he tires out. He also is good at saving cross slot shots which we give up a lot. That defense doesn’t help him especially last years historically bad showing.

I think he’s good. I think he can come here and start games, pave the way for Levi and eventually settle into the backup role.
I completely agree, also Anaheim seems to just stop playing after the new year, they've been a tank team with bad defense, with not very good depth of attack and idiot coach as Krueger.

I popped into WPG's forum to see their thoughts on Hellebuyck's value, and if their management feels the same way, no one has to ever worry about a deal.

Didn't even have to write a post see the asks of Power or Cozens.

There are a few in every fanbase. By and large, the asks of the Trade Forum Jet fans are a bit more reasonable.

Usually in the range of a 1st plus UPL. Maybe a mild add on top.......and to me, that strikes me as wholly reasonable.

Asks included:
Power

Cozens

1st-24, Mittelstadt, Ostlund/Kulich, Comrie, Lyubushkin

Savoie, Comrie, Lyubushkin, cond. 1st-24 (on some playoff condition)

The 4th was the only one worth entertaining, and I already know this board will hate it.

No where near 1st-24 + UPL. Their packages were making me wonder if we're trying to re-acquire Eichel, not a pending UFA goalie.

And given the Hanifin rumor, Adams likely offered Comrie, VO, and a 3rd.

Harrington (still) reads here ?
I seriously doubt he'd make that kind of effort. More likely he reads a few tweets from SabresFan1249102 and takes that to mean the entire fanbase, just like Hamilton. Which is why both should retire soon. The world has passed them by.

The Sabres will be hitting a cap hit wall in the summer of 2026. Tuch will need a new contract and the entry-level deals for Savoie, Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund, and maybe Benson all run out at the same time. By then, other guys like Krebs, Quinn, Peterka, and Levi will be on new contracts already. I don't see any need to acquire a goalie on a long-term deal, not just for wasting a cap hit on a guy splitting time with Levi, but for having a high cap back-up in the summer of 2026 is a problem not worth having. Even wasting cap space on a buy-out is a bad idea.

You can always trade this goalie in the future if you need to. I'm not talking about Gibson now, but about any goalie in general.

Just messing around on MoneyPuck and found this interesting - of goalies that played at least 5 games (86 goalies total), 3 of our goalies were among the worst in xSave% on unblocked shots (Anderson was 67th):

Another fun stat - % of shot attempts blocked - again among the worst in the league:

I've been particularly harsh on UPL and have stuck up for Comrie more than others, but the bottom line is we really do need to see what these guys have when the defense isn't a flaming cesspool of shit.

Again, I'm not some huge believer in "expected goals" or "expected saves" or anything like that, as they're largely based on distance from the net.

But jeebus this is eye opening. We knew that our defense gave up the most odd man rushes (2-on-1s particularly). We knew that our defense gave up the most high-danger chances. I guess what escaped me is how few shots we blocked -- and if you look at the raw numbers..............we blocked the 2nd fewest shots in the league (915 per stat muse). Now maybe that's partially by design (let the goalies see the shots).

But yeah -- most every advanced metric says our defense was bottom 3 in the league. We might have 2 serviceable NHL goalies (UPL, Comrie) and not even know it.

I find it troubling the mental gymnastics we do to make excuses for our goalies.

As the rangers announcers said, we would easily made the playoffs if we had levi’s lever of goaltending all season

Yes, and that's exactly how Montreal made the playoffs many of those years, their team sucked but they had Carey Price. I'm not sure that's what we should be aiming for.

No one wanted anything to do with Adin Hill a year ago, but now he's considered a legit nhl goalie. I find it interesting that Vegas ranks at the top of the league in many of these team metrics.

Ive been waiting 12 years to give Eric Comrie "a shot" ..

Add Lance and Joe to the Buffalo media members who think that they are going with Levi and UPL.
That being said, Adams is still negotiating Hellebuyck, and what about Comrie? They definitely won't go with three goalies.

I still think the most likely scenario is that Adams doesn't get a goalie and we run 13/7/3 out of camp with the idea being that UPL/Comrie/Levi split games evenly until one either proves better than the others OR one proves worse than the others.

It's a strange system, does anyone even play with three goalies? It just seems to me that the problem is that the goalies will be cold, in the sense that there is too much time between games and it is unlikely that they will play each game in turn.
