With the way that he is speaking, I wonder if he is looking to move Hart for a goalie that is under team control for a lot longer like Demko...
Or UPL? :naughty:

Hart is a RFA after this year - so it's not like he doesn't have team control - unless he's not willing to pay him. Which could be feasible assuming they are entering a rebuild.

Why? It looks like a rebuild, they already have some young goalies and Petersen.
He talked about wanting vets to help the team along. I'm expecting Cal Pete to get buried in the AHL and I do not believe their young goalies are enough for what he will want.

We shall see.

Or if Hart is unwilling to re-sign given the state of the team...

UPL would be a similar thing to Hart, just less proven at the NHL level.

If Briere wants a vet to stabilize things, then he will have to make a trade for a guy that is under team control. If not, he will be shopping for UFA scraps like the Sabres have been.

The Flyers also have Fedotov under contract. Although when he comes over to North America is anybody’s guess.

They have Peterson (potential tank commander) plus Ersson under contract beyond next season. So i don't think they NEED to actively acquire another goalie this offseason - especially if they are not intending on being competitive.

Hart is getting moved for sure though. There's way too much smoke at this point for him not to be.

It irritates me that Adams won't be in on this when he should be at the front of the queue. Hart would be a perfect fit with the expected trajectory of this team (and maybe more importantly, the trajectory of Levi). We've talked about guys lije Saros / Hellebuyck where that wouldn't necessarily be the case.

I get that they have goalies under contract.

I am just saying that Briere has talked about wanting vets to insulate the kids. He could want to move Hart for a veteran guy in goal and not just have tank commanders in net.

We shall see.

With respect to the Sabres, I'd be all for a deal that is UPL+ for Hart. But, who knows what Philly would want and what Adams would be willing to give up.

I don't want Hart, Hele is going to be too expensive as a rental. Rather go big for Saros. 2 Years is the perfect contract. Levi will be ready by the end of it.

Their fans want Savoie/Kulich + #13 for two years of Saros. Today I read the news that they did not trade Saros to LA during last season, although LA offered two 1st + some prospects.

Well that is one less year on the contract now. 13 UPL and Krebs (proposed offer for Hele) sounds close and doesn't really hurt much.

The reason why Hart makes a lot more sense than Saros or Hellebuyck is how he potentially meshes with Levi. He's that much younger, with far more team control.

You trade for Hellebuyck or Saros - you're obliged to give him a big money, long term extension which likely also includes a NMC/NTC, well into their 30s. Therefore locking him in as your long term #1 starter who gets 60+ games a year. May be a good thing since both guys are elite - but at that point... You may as well trade Levi because there is no space for him.

That wouldn't be the case with Hart though. You're not obliged to give Hart that type of extension. You see how both he & Levi do this year before deciding what to do. If Hart plays like an elite starter right away - then great - you found your guy. But you also have flexibility. If Levi emerges ahead of him - team control allows you to bridge Hart and potentially trade him further down the line. The only risk is that he is terrible from day one - which is very unlikely - but even in that event all you lose are the assets given up to acquire him.

I am liking helle less and less every day. The acquisition cost barely sounds like less than what LA offered 3 years of Saros.

Well, there is always UFA. While the teams are vying for Helle, Saros, Hart and others, Adams will quietly sign the best goalie in UFA. :sarcasm:
