Levi getting the start again tonight. They've got to give a game or two to UPL or Comrie in this 4 in 6, don't they?
They’ve given them too many games this season already. That they aren’t even considered while these games still matter tells you everything they think of those two goalies. The idea of running this back should be a fireable one.

Given the results while he's been in that position, sure. It's a performance industry, his people have not performed.

I wonder if they would consider Condon.
I wonder if they do move on, they offer the position to Anderson ? He can still keep his homestead in FL. He may want a quiet retirement though after the grind of 20 years and family life, golf, etc., not sure.

He's talked about it being time to focus on his family. That's not a goalie coach job.

Maybe he takes a year or two and then realizes he misses the show.

His temperament seems well suited to a future as a coach. Which is a very difficult thing to ever say about a goalie.

I bet the younger players will miss his presence on the team next year. He’s a good “safe” target for jokes both at, and from. He also had a pretty decent swan song of a season.

I think what matters here is that he needs to be a starter to best nurture his development. And I don't believe he is ready to be an NHL starter. I'm of the belief that unless he pulls a Dryden, he should start the year in Roch and move up when he's proved he's ready.

"Hey Craig, you know how the only nice time to live in Florida is the winter, and the rest of the time it's a humid hellscape that you yearn to escape?"
"yes, Of course"
"How about spending your winters in Florida with your family, you spend them driving between Rochester and Buffalo NY and flying home to see your family on the weekend commercial, would that appeal to you"

Been thinking about the farm goalies. With Portillo being gone, Leinonen looking pretty subpar, UPL likely being in Buffalo next season and Houser/Subban being UFA's could they look at signing one of the college UDFA goalies?

Just wondering if it would make sense to try and sign someone like Perets and get him down to start out in the ECHL like Toronto did with McKay. Still lets you develop Levi in the AHL, but also gives you another young lottery ticket who maybe takes a slower development path. Can still have Subban or Houser in the AHL as a mentor/vet and if Levi cracks the NHL full time then Perets/whoever could be up in the AHL.

A guy like Perets isn't signing here to play in the ECHL. I'd have to look into it some.....but I wonder if there's an overage goalie in the draft who we could sign and then plop in Cincy right away.

That said, I still wonder if maybe there's something to Beck Warm. His stats don't jump out, but his record most certainly does. He's only 23.

I mean McKay won the Hobey, and went to the ECHL for Toronto. Happens frequently with UDFA goalies. Strauss Mann played in the ECHL this season also. I'm sure others did as well.

Doesn't even have to be Perets though. Maybe someone like Bischel or Fiske. Not saying Warm can't get better, but it's unlikely he does. For reference Warms Counterpart in Cinci was 19-6-2 with 4 SO's and a .917 save %.

That's certainly something to poke around at. I do think they need an AHL vet option who can play up in the NHL in case of injury. They probably won't know until mid-summer since it might revolve around how many spots they have and who they want back.

Consultant for the Islanders and no longer wants to be a day-to-day goaltending coach.
I'm wondering with Trotz becoming GM of the Preds, does Korn follow him again to be the director of goaltending there. If he does, that could make Vanderklok available. He's from Welland, so Buffalo would be close to home for him, and he has experience with an undersized goalie already in Saros.

I can confirm this is true. He wasn't really the day-to-day goaltending coach for the Isles when he was there anyway. He was up in the boxes watching the goalies from up high while he had coaches on the ice. They used walkie-talkies.

Does Comrie have any trade value?

Anderson will probably retire back to Florida and I Could see Levi and UPL next year as the 1-2.

Comrie will have zero trade value in the offseason. He makes too much for the traditional backup role and he passed thru waivers several times in the past few seasons. Teams would rather just sign a guy for less than Comrie.

In season, if a team runs into injury issues they might pay a 3rd or a 4th depending on their cap situation.

But, the idea you would run with a 21 year old with no experience and a 25 year old who hasn't been a good NHL goalie would be a terrible idea. Both need mentoring in goal. Comrie isn't the guy because he's never handled the starters load in the NHL.

They need to bring in someone else this summer, period.

Unless Buffalo trades away UPL or waives him its looking that way. I am sorry you feel its a terrible idea. A goaltending coach can mentor.

Levi will be the starter next year, that much is obvious so you are implying UPL will be gone. I guess we will see if the sabres give up on UPL. UPL wont make it through waivers.

Of all the terrible ideas in net the sabres had in the last 10 years this is probably the least terrible of them all. They haven't been able to trade for a good goalie in 10 years I am not sure what will change plus do the sabres want to waste assets on a goalie?

Maybe they give up on UPL but as it sits it does look like UPL and Levi next year.

What's he say?

Starts off by talking about how the youngsters went through this and got better.
"Crystalized who is on the roster" going forward.
Lance brings up goaltending - Levi's use shows they may roll with him going forward.
Lance brings up top 4D (Chychrun).
Marek - Dahlin extension job #1 this summer.
Marek - Getting another minute muncher to keep them from burning out "by Christmas".
Marek asks who is likely out - LL answers with Vic (of course) and UPL (mentions risk of Levi as a new goalie, not having a backup plan there)
Marek brings up UPL to Seattle as a "I wonder if there is a fit there".
Marek also brings up that Portillo was rumored to be of interest to Seattle last draft around 8 minutes in.
LL - talks up Botts ties to UPL but doesn't think they would be the only team interested
LL - Vancouver has called about UPL.
LL - Thinks Power would win the Calder if he'd had PP time to get more points. Talks up Power at 5-on-5 and the big minutes.
LL - KO will be back, talks up his defensive/matchup role, can't see them going all young next year.
