I think Krebs is their spark in the locker room as well.

Could very well be. The energy is there and he's playing to fit the line he is on in a way that makes it work. There is no reason to shuffle that line as it's been winning shot share in a way with all three together that is better than each without the other two. It's working.

In the meantime, they bought a little more time with keeping Comrie on IR after his conditioning assignment. They have the luxury of not rushing him back.

You know it's one thing if the goalie gets cleanly beat, it's another if it's deflections etc. Now even giving up 5 goals most of them he had zero chance at. Hell Hasek would of given up 3 or 4 of them
I'm the first to agree that much of our bad goaltending stats stems from poor team play in front of them giving up a lot of high danger shots. Consequentially, I also think that alot of our improved goaltending is coming from improved, and more importantly, more predictable defensive play in front of our goaltenders.

What I am pushing back on is this sudden assertion by many on this board that UPL is now a true #1 goaltender that the team cannot live without. Its a kneejerk reaction that is yinging as far to the upside as it was yanging to the bottom a month and a half ago.

I'm not disagreeing with you but realistically he could have stopped maybe 2 out of the goals he allowed. His play where he stopped unexpected shots was great so all in all he had a good game even though his save % wasn't great

Maybe the title of the thread needs to be updated since a GCT is going to be needed soon.

:sarcasm:

UPL needs to see pucks. Lots and lots of pucks. He can't be splitting a net with Comrie when he's not scheduled to start, IMO. Not for an extended period of time. Maybe it'll work until Comrie is truly back......but in order for UPL to improve, I think he needs to be seeing a TON of work. Not some sort of 3-way split.

Splitting reps at an off day game day skate is nothing.

The question will be about how much do each of the three play in games moving forward.

I'm more interested in how they split practice reps on non-game days, truth be told. UPL needs to be seeing all the pucks he can at this point. I'd far, far, far rather him in Rochester having one net all practice than in Buffalo getting 50-75% of one net.

Trust me, game day skate reps are not a big deal.

And he will get the same amount of goalie island time with Bales regardless of whether there are two or three goalies with the Sabres. And that goalie island time with Bales is where a goalie gets better and not just practice drills during a game day skate that are skater focused.

The #1 thing for UPL's development is game time. The #2 thing is goalie-specific practice.

I think UPL will be playing every other day, with Anderson still playing once a week.

Comrie will be backing up a bunch of games giving the other 2 a break and worry free time for some extra goalie-specific practice.

Not sure when Comrie gets in a game.

If they do roll with three goalies and given that the Sabres have 4 games per week over the next three weeks, I would expect it might work out to be UPL 2x, Comrie 1x, & Anderson 1x per week.

And given that Granato likes to let guys play against their old team, maybe Comrie is back on Thursday vs the Jets...
