Eric Comrie said hes ok on a conditioning stint in Rochester. Right attitude to have with UPL coming off two strong game against tough teams.

I'd like UPL against Tampa and Boston over the next 10 days
Can they send him to Rochester and he can play there without going waivers?

It will be interesting to see how they play it after Comrie is healthy given the need to minimize Anderson's workload and the desire to get UPL games.

The shifting narrative on UPL certainly appears to be a case of recency bias. UPL's Quality Start% is worse than Comrie's for the season. And their Save% and other starts are similarly not good for the entire season.

To act like the cement has hardened with either goalie is premature.

Two good games is something to build on, certainly not a solution.

UPL has looked night and day better his past couple starts. He seems much more composed and settled in the net. Hopefully this has been building with Bales and he continues to play at this level moving forward. He needs to play consistently though. Rotating 3 goalies won’t help him, he needs constant game reps.

hes got 9 starts of course its recency bias, hes only got recency to judge

I'd send UPL back down on a high note.

No reason to carry 3 goalies.

If a conditioning stint is possible for Comrie that is 100% the best option.

There's a slim chance that UPL is breaking out, the Vegas game was like nothing I've seen from him before. He challenged the shooters and was a lot more active.

UPL is on Emergency recall, so he has to be sent back down when Comrie comes back, or converted to a normal recall. We play 5 games in 7 nights after this break, and 15 games in January. So there are planty of games to go around if they wanted to use UPL/ Comrie/Andersen in a rotation for a bit. That said, unless UPL dominates, he needs to backstop the Amerks into the playoffs on a cup run.

We got to ride the hot hand right now. UPL at the very least has earned another couple starts.

Good chance he keeps it going against Columbus

I mixing up a magic potion today that will solve all Buffalo goalie issues...

Portillo and Levi both sign.
UPL goes lights out and forces his way as the starter the rest of the year.
Buffalo trades Levi to Montreal for a ransom, and Levi and Habs fans rejoice.
Portillo progresses and ultimately becomes a serviceable back-up.
UPL dominates as a starter long-term.
Assets from the Levi trade solidify a Cup winning roster.

Thanks Devon Levi!!

Tough situation because you want him to get experience, but tying up a roster spot to carry 3 goalies seems like a tough way to go when there are other holes to address.

Hopefully he has a couple more solid starts, does well in Rochester, and they can have enough confidence in him to be one of the 2 next year.

Having said that, I think there is a vast difference between NHL and AHL experience for a goaltender.

The other problem is roster space. If you keep 3 goalies....who do you send down to make room? Krebs/JJP/Quinn are the only 3 that can be sent down without passing wavers? KA is going to run into a overfull roster issue soon if he doesn't move some driftwood out. Can't give and AHL prospects an NHL taste, and can't play your most tradeable assets enough to get their value up.

Suchanek looked fantastic for the Czech tonight against Canada. He looked solid as an invite to the Sabres rookie development camp and he was passed over twice in the draft, is he a UFA?

UPL making a heck of a case. I got some real 'slowing it down' vibes when KA was asked about the Comrie timeline.

Comrie may need to stay in Rochester after his conditioning assignment. Waive him if needed
I don't know how they do it. But yeah, I don't think they can send UPL down playing like this.

Maybe Arizona wants to trade for Comrie? Not sure what we want from them though. 🤔

Just heard Hamilton say Comrie was in Roch?
Yes. Playing right now against the Toronto Marlies. 3 saves on 3 shots.
