I'm in the minority and will get yelled at, but I don't care. I'm not convinced that Jones is better than Scrivens!

The Scrivens shut-out streak was longer. Plus, Jones is GREAT down low and, thankfully, the vast majority of the shots against him have been low shots. However, I'm under the impression that if opponents shot up high and picked the upper corners, it might just be revealed that Jones can be made to look like a sieve.

Also, Scrivens possesses athletic traits similar to Quick's. Meanwhile, Jones is mostly wooden, ala Bernier.

I'm not sold on either being the clear back-up to Quick. More data is required.

Apologies. Didn't see that another thread (with the exact same title, oddly enough) was started a little while ago.

It's becoming increasingly clear the Kings do not intend to keep Scrivens past this season.

How?

Scrivens played a whopping 32 games before coming to LA. Jones played 0 but has been in our system and earned his call up, even if it was due to an injury. Trade Scrivens and Frattin in all honesty. Terrible trade. Just keep the pick and bail on the rest.

Frattin's flopped I agree, but Scrivens has been incredible. Stats wise, he's still the NHL leader in save percentage and I think GAA (amongst those who meet whatever the minimum minutes played is). If he keeps it up, it's hard to say that's terrible, even if he walks after the season. If he would have sucked or even been average we'd be all *****ing about how we aren't even in a playoff spot right now.

The reason we didn't want to trade Bernier was that he was great insurance in case Quick went down. Well, Quick just went down and Scrivens is giving us great insurance. We HAD to deal Bernier. We didn't have a choice, so getting a guy who can plug that backup role just as well as Bernier did (and so far so great on that) was great. If we keep him around, all the better (assuming he can maintain an even remotely close standard of play).

If we keep Scrivens long-term and he maintains this level of play, we've replaced Bernier, and still added a pick, some cap space and another player in Frattin.

So Jones effect in practice? Will having a large goalie, that is positionally strong, help in practice by giving a different look then Quick/Scrivens? Just seems to me that Kings have had problems in games against big positional goalies.

Scrivens scares the **** out of me. His style is absolutely terrible. That was the biggest question mark I had with him and he's proved to me that his style is terrifying. Yes, he's played well but he's not the best option. Calmness of Jones is huge.

I know we had to trade Bernier. That's not the issue. The return was. I never liked the deal from the start. Period. It was just bad. You get a 3rd liner who can't even do THAT for us, a backup goalie who's in the prime age of his career and had bad serious issues in his game, and a pick. Pick was nice, Scrivens has been great, but overall a terrible deal. Just not worth really even debating anymore honestly. Long over. Who cares now. Can't get Beauty...I mean Bernier back.

You left out probably the most important part of the deal. The retained salary. ;)

Yes, with his tongue.

 I aim to please!

As godforsakenly ugly as Scrivens' 'style' is, he's effective. As a goaltender yourself, you know shooters that have no clue what they're doing are hard to read; it works the same the other way around. He's like an extremely destitute man's Hasek.

"All Bill Ranford's Children."

Someone seems to still care...

This.

The return was bad, Frattin isn't stepping up and I do like Jones over Scribbles. Horrible deal in the long run...but it is what it is.

Have you guys noticed how quickly Leafs fans have already turned on their goalies? They're questioning Bernier's mental game and saying that he's good to allow a weak goal every game. Of course it is bound to happen when a defensively inept team allows many good scoring chances throughout the course of a game.

That's the leafs for you, I was so amazed at that too. That's why I hate their fan base.

Ahahaha, are teamBernier guys really still sour about the trade? I thought you guys were happy that he now has a chance to be starter. I bet you thought he would chase Reimer out of town by mid of November, you know the guy who was taken like 5 rounds after Bernier.

The return is fine. Seriously, just get over it.

I have a feelings Jones and Scrivens are going to push each other into awesomeness, ala Quick and Bernier.
