I know Columbus has no chance of signing him but I am still disappointed that they submitted an offer.

Sure, there is the "try to improve the team at all costs" view, but on principle I don't think there should be a way around playing for a team that drafts you. Yes, it isn't a loophole, but my view is that young players SHOULD have 0% control over where they sign, RFA players with arbitration rights have about 50%, and UFA players have 100%.

We do live in a free society do we not?

CHL players have ways to get out of not signing with the club that drafts them.

So do European-trained players.

Why should anyone be forced into a work contract with an organization they don't want to be employed by?

To be Devil's Advocate, why would Vesey's agent tell teams that they were out? More competition is likely to yield better offers.

Also being Devil's Advocate it's not Chicago or New York area reporters reporting that no one has been eliminated. It's people from Boston and Pittsburgh. Again - why would they want to admit defeat?

His agent is admitting defeat? Care to explain?

I tend to agree with this. A credible media person would not say "multiple sources" if they werent his sources. At least id hope not.

The people posting the rumors weren't random twitter posters either. They're all writers and NHL network guys who have their own sources. The fans outside of Chicago and NY are in full denial mode.

Professional courtesy. Generally, if a bidder has no chance, you tell them for the sake of efficiency. The agent might not come out and say "we have eliminated all but 2 teams" but it can be pared down by learning who has been rejected.

Also, it can help raise the ante by announcing a 1 on 1 competition. NY and Chicago know what each other can offer Vesey in terms of cap and position depth. So they will try to one-up.

If you took 15 seconds to follow the situation you would understand that there are no better offers to yield. He can only receive the rookie max in contract term, amount and bonuses.

CBA regulates the length and structure of ELCs. Pretty sure everybody will be offering close to identical two year ELCs with max bonuses (which Nashville and likely Buffalo did). Teams can't offer more guaranteed money than 925K. Teams can't offer a one way deal or no trade clause.

There's not a ton of wiggle room in terms of offers for ELCs.

I agree I think it's our duty as North Americans to bring back arranged marriages, the draft, and everyone's last name should indicate what their profession is.

Except they are choosing to work for the NHL.

They can still choose a different profession. Heck, they can choose a different league if they want.

For instance, take being an attorney and applying to a firm. This firm has branches in Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Chicago. If they hire me, they CAN and often DO tell me where I will be working. This will often be based upon which branch/franchise needs me the most. I can't really say "I want to work for your firm and only in Columbus!"

The trade off is I get hired by a prominent company in a hopefully lucrative field. Once I have attained experience and made partner, usually in my 40's or 50's, then do I get the flexibility to choose where and when I work.

I could become a teacher instead. Or I could go work for a different firm. My choice, but once I make that choice, autonomy is out of my hands. It's even worse for doctoral students and medical residents on their way to becoming doctors.

He might want a guarantee that coach Q won't have him riding the pine like he usually does with rookies.

The other very plausible scenario is that sources close to Vesey are the ones leaking NYR and CHI in the hopes that it'll compel Boston or some other team to sweeten their offer in some (non-monetary) way. That stuff happens all the time. It's all part of negotiating.

Nothing is official until it's official, that's all anybody is really saying. And the fact that his camp is suggesting a decision might not even come today implies it could be far from over.

For reference, I'm a Blues fan who lives in Chicago. I've long thought the Hawks would make the most sense for him, but I don't particularly care where the kid ends up. He's not coming to St. Louis.

Unless Vesey and his entire team is filled with morons I'm sure he understands that everything is just lip service. The moment he starts costing his team games he will be on a bus to Rockford or Hartford.

If he really wants to avoid the AHL he will sign with a team like Buffalo or New Jersey. Teams that have trouble attracting free agents. There's no way a team like Buffalo is going to send Vesey down to Rochester because it looks bad to potential free agents. Reputation doesn't really matter to New York or Chicago because free agents will always flock to those cities.

I am certainly aware of that but it's more time for the Vesey to keep getting sold on a particular situation.

This is what seems so strange to me. Is Vesey really that stupid to believe any amount of empty promises that a GM/HC give him in regard to line-up opportunities? Once the contract is signed, it's on Vesey to prove his value to the coach...that's it. It's on Vesey to determine what his 2nd contract will be...that's it. Anything a team tells him beyond numbers at this point is pure garbage.

Not his agent. Beat writers who represent the team's not getting Vesey waiving the metaphorical white flag.

That beat writer gave his source: Fish. That is presenting facts not the 'reports' nonsense other people are spewing. He is an actual journalist who used his sources name. Fact. The rest is all speculation. It may be right, but it is 100% speculation and I hope anyone who has a twitter account and follows these people rightfully call them out if they are proven wrong.

I just hope he goes to a team that can use him the most.
I hate the whole the rich get richer thing.
Devils (obvious picks as I am a devils fan) have the weakest F group , and Buffalo and Toronto with us have missed the playoffs for a few years now. I wouldn't mind Boston either , they missed playoffs as well but just by a point.
If the Hawks get him I will puke in my mouth a little. Two free young prospects in consecutive years that would go there just because they were garbage at a time to be able to draft three / four franchise players and now are more or less now have players tripping all over themselves for a chance at an very good shot at a cup run and boost their stats playing on a stacked team.
Same thing kinda apples for the Rangers ... Hey we play in New York .. Greatest city on earth , doesn't mean we have the best run team , but hey , MSG , .... New Frickin York! Not Winnipeg Manitoba here!
I don't blame Panarin or Vesey if he chooses the Hawks , just sucks that the rich get richer .

I understand that but I mean more like it's more time for teams to pitch playing time, make guarantees, get prospective team mates on the phone, etc.
