I don't really want him in Chicago or on a rival team, but that seems guaranteed to happen so now I'm just looking forward to the decision! I'm glad I haven't invested much time following this guy though haha

I don't think anymore that the Vesey camp will ever come out with "__________ is out of the running." type announcements.

It's going to be one announcement at the end. "Vesey will sign with ______."

The end. We'll know who is out the same time we know who he signs with.

I'm not talking about top scorers. I'm talking about the truly superstar elite talent that have won Stanley Cups.

Toews, Kane.

Kopitar, Doughty.

Crosby, Malkin.

And looking back at all the first round picks the Rangers have traded since the Nash trade, and in the area they'd be drafting had they not traded those picks. Barely any of those players have yet to become impact talent. Really the only player who has had any sort of decent showing in the NHL is Burakovsky. Who rode Kuznetsov's coattails hard this season and was useless when seperated.

Bergeron. Krejci.

While Lou was GM with the Devils, which is half his life, he never went after these college free agents. We actually lost one. I think the first college prospect to go free agent. Conte is out of his mind. The age.

Depends on what you mean by "these" college free agents. John Madden and Andy Greene were free agent pickups. There were plenty of other filler guys like Rod Pelley, Mike Sislo, etc.

Allegedly Lou did tender an offer towards Blake Wheeler when he was going through this process, but we would have been a long shot since Lou didn't include performance bonuses in ELCs at the time.

This is just brilliant. I don't remember when I was last so entertained by something so inconsequential.

You dont need top end talent to always come from the top 10 of a draft. Does it help to find it there? Sure, but tons of teams in the last 10 years have whiffed on their top 10 picks or had them work out to be marginal role players at best

Maybe because NY have traded 6 1st and 2nd round picks in the last 4 years?

Here are the top 15 scorers last year and where they were drafted overall:

Kane - 1st
Benn - 129th
Crosby - 1st
Thornton -1st
Karlsson - 15th
Gaudreau - 104th
Wheeler - 5th
Pavelski - 205th
Kuznetsov - 26th
Panarin - Undrafted
Burns - 20th
Kopitar -11th
Tarasenko -16th
Seguin - 2nd
Ovechkin - 1st

6 in the top 10 overall, 9 outside

its not really a viable excuse. Always going for it and unloading pick after pick the last 7-8 odd years and replenishing them with much lower picks (if they can) isnt helping NYRs cause

And of the "9 outside." How many are playing with players drafted in the top 10? Hrm...

It's called "mid-August in the hockey world."

People are talking about this so much because it's literally the only story to talk about right now.

August is the absolute worst.

I mean hindsight is always 20/20. Still, even guys like Datsyuk, Bergeron, Zetterberg, Chara, etc on those cup winning teams were drafted no where near the top 10 overall.

Still, yes it helps Pittsburgh, Chicago, and LAK had their players to develop as advertised, but its not a requirement to have those guys to thrive and Detroit and Boston are examples of that.

I mean if it were, Washington would have a cup or two by now. They have/had elite talent for years. Still have backstrom and ovechkin obviously. They had Mike Green when he was the premiere offensive dman before Karlsson came along, they had Semin when he was nasty, they have had plenty of good goaltending over the years with Varlarmov and Holtby.

No top end talent because we haven't drafted within the top 10, let alone the top 5 in over a decade. We've been a playoff team all but one year since the lockout. And even in that one year we got eliminated on the final game of the season in a shootout.

Excuse us though. It must be nice to suck for years on end.

And I don't get the notion the Rangers are on the decline. All because of two bad games against the Penguins who were the obvious Cup winners from the jump and ran through basically everyone else (outside one mishap against TB when they started MAF).

Good lord when's the last time your team has even had a pick in the first round?
