No top end talent because we haven't drafted within the top 10, let alone the top 5 in over a decade. We've been a playoff team all but one year since the lockout. And even in that one year we got eliminated on the final game of the season in a shootout.

Excuse us though. It must be nice to suck for years on end.

And I don't get the notion the Rangers are on the decline. All because of two bad games against the Penguins who were the obvious Cup winners from the jump and ran through basically everyone else (outside one mishap against TB when they started MAF).

You dont need top end talent to always come from the top 10 of a draft. Does it help to find it there? Sure, but tons of teams in the last 10 years have whiffed on their top 10 picks or had them work out to be marginal role players at best

Maybe because NY have traded 6 1st and 2nd round picks in the last 4 years?

Here are the top 15 scorers last year and where they were drafted overall:

Kane - 1st
Benn - 129th
Crosby - 1st
Thornton -1st
Karlsson - 15th
Gaudreau - 104th
Wheeler - 5th
Pavelski - 205th
Kuznetsov - 26th
Panarin - Undrafted
Burns - 20th
Kopitar -11th
Tarasenko -16th
Seguin - 2nd
Ovechkin - 1st

6 in the top 10 overall, 9 outside

its not really a viable excuse. Always going for it and unloading pick after pick the last 7-8 odd years and replenishing them with much lower picks (if they can) isnt helping NYRs cause

I would say both are places I would have picked in his situation(ie places who aren't heavy on forward prospects)

Conte who is Lamoriello's former right hand man in NJ states Lou goes hard and will go hard after Vesey.

McDonald, an NHL writer and analyst states Toronto offers lots of upside to Vesey.

Rumors running rampant that NYR, NJ and Toronto are the final candidates. No mention of Chicago or Boston.

All can be read on TSN.ca

Bob Mackenzie's home.

While Lou was GM with the Devils, which is half his life, he never went after these college free agents. We actually lost one. I think the first college prospect to go free agent. Conte is out of his mind. The age.

I'm not talking about top scorers. I'm talking about the truly superstar franchise elite talent that have won Stanley Cups.

Toews, Kane.

Kopitar, Doughty.

Crosby, Malkin.

And looking back at all the first round picks the Rangers have traded since the Nash trade, and in the area they'd be drafting had they not traded those picks. Barely any of those players have yet to become impact talent. Really the only player who has had any sort of decent showing in the NHL is Burakovsky. Who rode Kuznetsov's coattails hard this season and was useless when seperated.

I've come to terms with all those picks and prospects we've traded away. It's part of doing business when you're trying to win a Stanley Cup. You have a chance, you go for it.

I'd rather that than watching losing hockey season in, season out like 75% of the league has for the past 5+ years.

I'm only trusting Vesey's camp. Any other sources are taken with a gigantic gain of salt.

Sounding like a Babcock media circus again. Everyone speculates he goes one way when in reality he goes in another.
