I'm waiting for everyone to lose it when he signs with Chicago

Meh, he is far from guaranteed to be a star, or even any kind of impact player

As much as people keep saying the salary cap keeps eating Chicago up, the salary cap is also forcing holes in their lineups that make Chicago near front runners for every top ELC free agent out there moving forward.

Bowman uses that to his advantage and thats why he has been so successful. He does the song and dance of "look, we have cap issues. we had to dump some guys, now we have prime roles we need to fill. that could be you. oh yea, and we still have kane, toews, keith, etc. You get to play with them"

Actually, if it's not my team, I'm hoping for Chicago.

Only Western conference team, so I won't have to hear about him much. And then I'll get to laugh in two years when Chicago trades his RFA rights to some rebuilding team because they don't have cap space.

I would imagine there would be some sort of gentlemen's agreement that if that scenario plays out, that they will make an effort to send him somewhere that he is agreeable too. You know that had to come up in their talks.

I'm sure NYR/PIT/CHI/TOR/any team are aware of this and can plan accordingly.

Vesey isn't making all/any of the bonuses anyway, so it doesn't matter too much.

Well aware of that. This was in response to some yahoo who said PIT didn't have the 3.775m of cap space needed to sign him.

Indeed. Vesey is not the difference between Chicago being a cup contender and not. They'll make the playoffs, sure, but Cup contender status is highly debatable. Vesey isn't going to magically turn that around. Plus, if he looks at their cap structure, he ain't getting paid anytime soon.

I believe Toronto still has Horton and Robidas, both of which will be moved to LTIR freeing about $8.25M ($5.25 and $3M)
Can someone confirm this? Thanks

LTIR allows teams to go over the cap, but it does not effect potential bonus money or the bonus cushion maximum.

Toronto can still offer him the same as everyone else, I think, it's close, but they would have a difficult time offering anyone else much if any bonus money while they have both Vessey and Matthews at the max.

Joel Quenneville isn't Babs. Never will be. That's why Babs is head coach of Canada and he isn't. :yo:

Vesey has an opportunity to grow with a team and be the core with Toronto where in Chicago he will be nothing but a role player in the bottom 6.

Sorry has to be Toronto....

I don't buy this whatsoever.

Your opinion is yours. Can't wait to see your response if he doesn't sign in Toronto.

Again, not really a credible source. Bill Watters is the former Leafs AGM and he's never right about anything

I also find it amusing that the hated Eklund is not even blogging on Hockeybuzz about any of the comments today from these "sources".

'Wants to be near home' - considers Chicago

'Wants to avoid mass media spotlight' - considers NYR

'Wants to be a part of a contender' - considers Boston

He will pick a team no one expects for a reason no one expects.

Conte who is Lamoriello's former right hand man in NJ states Lou goes hard and will go hard after Vesey.

McDonald, an NHL writer and analyst states Toronto offers lots of upside to Vesey.

Rumors running rampant that NYR, NJ and Toronto are the final candidates. No mention of Chicago or Boston.

All can be read on TSN.ca

He won't sign in Toronto. Doesn't mean there isn't a good opportunity for him there and a great coach.

Signing in Chicago would assume he wants to hit his bonuses. With Panarin up at years end you have to wonder if there will be cap in Chitown for him in two years.

Might be just me, but sorry I don't get the Rangers. They seem like they are on the decline. Nash looks like a shadow of his former self. They have some nice players, but no top end talent.
