Jimmy Vesey will be with an American original 6 team I'm hearing. @NYRangers & @NHLBlackhawks are finalists according to multiple sources.

I kind of like our chances if that's true. NYC is the best place to live, no doubt. And it is a lot closer to his home for however much that matters. But there's more opportunity for him to thrive in Chicago. And if he wants to win a Cup that would hopefully seal the deal.

Has there ever been this much anticipation about signing an untested, 23 year old player drafted in the 3rd-round?

I have no problem whatsoever with Vesey exploiting every opportunity provided in the CBA, but he has raised expectations for himself to a level I seriously doubt he can achieve.

That said, for an NHL team signing him, there's little risk. Easy come, easy go if he doesn't pan out.

Doesn't bonus tax get applied to next season if a team goes over the cap due to bonuses?

Yes, they can be deferred, however a team can only offer bonuses in total to 7.5% of that season cap ceiling, and those are in effect throughout the whole entry level deal.

Having several players on entry level deals with possible bonuses adds up.

I believe Toronto still has Horton and Robidas, both of which will be moved to LTIR freeing about $8.25M ($5.25 and $3M)
Can someone confirm this? Thanks

All contracts put us over the cap. Horton, Robidas, and the Cowen contract being bought out puts us way under. Money isn't an issue. Right now all contracts count until the season starts.

Again, not really a credible source. Bill Watters is the former Leafs AGM and he's never right about anything

He's coming to Toronto. Who would want to play with fellow American Matthews and also play for the best coaches in the league that mentors rookies into stars.

People your really wasting your time with all these hypotheticals. He's going to Toronto.

He's coming to Chicago. Who would want to play with fellow American Kane and also play for the best coaches in the league that mentors rookies into stars.

I can do that too.

It's all very Schultz-esque

Was it really him who raised those expectations? Or the media and teams that are after him?

Ya he had Stamkos coming to Toronto and how did that end up.

Neil freakin Smith... LOL

Exactly lol. The whole speculation from outsiders (aka NOT from Bobby Mac, Friedman, etc.) to me means that they're really all getting it from nothing but speculation and each other. I think the truth is that nobody actually knows where he's going yet

I thought his decision was going to be influenced based on teams prospect pools as well?

So much for that.

Joel Quenneville isn't Babs. Never will be. That's why Babs is head coach of Canada and he isn't. :yo:

Vesey has an opportunity to grow with a team and be the core with Toronto where in Chicago he will be nothing but a role player in the bottom 6.

Sorry has to be Toronto....

If it's between the Blackhawks and Rangers please let it be the Rangers. Tired of Chicago getting freebies/discounts.

I'm waiting for everyone to lose it when he signs with Chicago

Actually, if it's not my team, I'm hoping for Chicago.

Only Western conference team, so I won't have to hear about him much. And then I'll get to laugh in two years when Chicago trades his RFA rights to some rebuilding team because they don't have cap space.
