Meh, he is far from guaranteed to be a star, or even any kind of impact player

As much as people keep saying the salary cap keeps eating Chicago up, the salary cap is also forcing holes in their lineups that make Chicago near front runners for every top ELC free agent out there moving forward.

Bowman uses that to his advantage and thats why he has been so successful. He does the song and dance of "look, we have cap issues. we had to dump some guys, now we have prime roles we need to fill. that could be you. oh yea, and we still have kane, toews, keith, etc. You get to play with them"

The flaw in that logic is that control over his destination is driving this entire circus. Chicago is likely the place where he has the least control over the next few years, based on precedent of the annual cap dump. He would have to be Panarin, not Shaw or Saad, to keep leverage. Otherwise, he is very possibly off to the highest bidder in two years.

All else being equal, the Hawks are the ideal destination, but the fact that control over the city where he plays is obviously a very high priority makes me think he isn't going there.

Now that I have said that, we will see him and Bowman and Kane in a press conference this afternoon to make me look like an idiot.

He won't sign in Toronto. Doesn't mean there isn't a good opportunity for him there and a great coach.

Signing in Chicago would assume he wants to hit his bonuses. With Panarin up at years end you have to wonder if there will be cap in Chitown for him in two years.

Might be just me, but sorry I don't get the Rangers. They seem like they are on the decline. Nash looks like a shadow of his former self. They have some nice players, but no top end talent.

I never said there isn't. I was just reacting to the notion that it "has to be Toronto." It has to be whatever the hell he wants it to be.

There is a flaw there, and then theres not

The flaw exists if he is choosing a team he wants to be with long term.

The flaw doesnt exist if he is looking down the line to his second contract where he wants to get paid but isnt overly concerned with team. If thats true, its a not issue because if he plays to the level he believes he is capable of, Chicago might be the best place in the league for him to jump on right now to get paid in his second deal

Whenever anyone ends their post with "book it" it literally never happens so that's a good sign for the rest of us. Book it.

Weird and odd vibes coming out of the Toronto camp!!!! As per Eklund.

either they know hes coming or they know hes not coming. One thing is for certain nobody talking or commenting.

Hmmmmm. Wonder whats going on.

He's coming to Toronto.

Man, if I was an NCAA guy getting this much buzz I'd set up a live streaming landing page, load it up with targeted Amazon affiliate advertisements, take three weeks to decide, and count my money as doofs like me buy the True Detective Season One boxset we always thought we wanted.

Was it really him who raised those expectations? Or the media and teams that are after him?

There would have been zero fuss if he had quietly signed with Nashville.

To reiterate, I have no problem with how Vesey has handled the situation, but he has unquestionably turned a spotlight on himself. Ultimately he is responsible for raising expectations about his play.

No top end talent because we haven't drafted within the top 10, let alone the top 5 in over a decade. We've been a playoff team all but one year since the lockout. And even in that one year we got eliminated on the final game of the season in a shootout.

Excuse us though. It must be nice to suck for years on end.

And I don't get the notion the Rangers are on the decline. All because of two bad games against the Penguins who were the obvious Cup winners from the jump and ran through basically everyone else (outside one mishap against TB when they started MAF).
