In a perfect world, a player who refused to play for the team that drafted him would be black balled and never have a chance to even have a career in the league.

In a perfect world, the teams that draft players must give contracts to all players they draft, too. Right?

CBA was made with both parties in mind.

In my opinion, I do see a fit with Toronto. I also disagree with your comment about most people on the Leaf board agreeing there is no fit. I do not see the Leaf boards leaning one way or another to be honest.

I see a fit with pretty much every team. What I don't see is Vesey picking a team that is a 10 hour drive from Boston if it is accurate that he wants to be close to family and that means Boston or he could live in Connecticut quite easily and play for NYR, NYI, or the Devils and still be just a couple hour drive home.

Why would he care who traded for his rights? Nashville drafted him and stayed in touch with him for four years and that didn't seem to matter.

All things being equal, I'd choose the team that gave up something to try to get me.

In a perfect world, the draft wouldn't need to exist at all. Unfortunately, that would mean every player would sign with the team that has a winning pedigree. The world is not perfect.

I agree, if they had no choice where to sign then the team that drafted them has to sign them and pay them or not draft them. It's either that or the way it is now.

Would you rather see him bust for another team or play average (3rd or 4th line level) for your team?

So Vesey's camp tells Detroit that he wants to play closer to home near Boston, Yet Chicago is in the final running. Just come out and say that you don't want to play in Detroit.

I'll refer you to something I posted in the thread yesterday:

"I would imagine this isn't a black and white issue. Let's say there are 5 issues, rated 0-5.

Distance, current/recent success, future outlook, living situation, max bonus offer

Let's say you have to score a total of at least 15 to be considered.

Detroit scores, in order, a 0-3-3-3-5. They get a 14 and get knocked out. Chicago scores a 0-5-3-3-5. They get a 16, so stay in.

I'm not saying those scores are accurate. I'm just pointing out that distance wouldn't be the only factor, but it seems perfectly legitimate that even if it is one, Chicago is possible when Detroit isn't. Chicago has a leg up because of the stature of the organization."

Not only are those scores probably not accurate, but I doubt they went through and scored it in that way at all. This was mostly an illustration of how multiple factors could be at stake.

You dont know what he told Detroit

He might have said "the package you presented isn't enough to compensate for being far away from Boston"

Chicago / NYR / Pitt - might be different

Right, exactly. IF he's going to go that far away from home, there has to be some X factor as the draw. Chicago has it, Detroit does not.
