Most of this process is not really Vesey and his agents fault except for one, this pitch procedure

Making 6-7 teams fly out to Boston to formally present their idea and parade team captains and star power to woo him. Thats the joke of all this.

He should be processing this like any normal UFA on July 1. Take calls, see what they have to offer, make a decision in a couple days if needed.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that he's not making anybody do anything, and the teams are flying out to woo him of their own volition.

Making them?

None of these team have to do anything, they can send him a text message asking him to join the team if they want. These teams are going out there because they want to present a strong case for the kid to join there team. To think Vesey is "making them" do anything is hilarious.

that is one of the dumbest things someone can say. There are 100,000 things you can tell a team. are you saying they are going to say that and not those other 99,999 things?

IF it is TRUE, Chi is out.
IF it is NOT TRUE, and Chi is alive, why the #$%@ would you say that BS excuse and not something else then?

Can ANYONE answer that? It's laughable.

It's the "for the right price scenario" You might have something you don't want to sell, but if someone came along and offered you a boatload more than it's worth, you'd consider it.

In this case "the right price" is a shot at a cup right away and maximizing his salary in 2 years.

He's the closest comparable in Vesey's draft, which shows exactly how volatile 1st round picks are. There are no guarantees, but Vesey's a 1st round calibre prospect by any measure - if you pick a forward in the 1st round and he's intent on going for the full college ride, you hope he progresses as well as Vesey has.

What's the counter-argument? What more would you expect?

Different schools, different programs, different positions, different styles of play, and picked 50 or so spots apart. But somehow they're comparables?

Ya honestly I don't remember. It kinda seems like these situations hype has increased more each year

Shultz and Vesey seem to have more publicity but I think its due to the Leafs being a potential landing spot. With Hayes there was way less publicity.

Of course he isnt demanding in person meetings in Boston, but yea, by not keeping an arms distance from teams and him and his agent not deciding that they will be fielding offering via phone call/video chat, they let this evolve into a circus

Any sales person is going to prefer to sit you down in person for their pitch and his agent knows this. They are making this more of a circus than needed with this whole courting process

I do remember the Hayes decision being similar.
Probably a notch higher with Vesey simply cuz he won the Hobey Baker/his skillset.

Thank God for Vesey, otherwise this off season would be unbearable.

I find the overhype unbearable. He was 22 years old this year I hope he would dominate, cant believe where people rate this player. 3 More points and 4 years older than Colin White and people have him as a better prospect its asinine.

TSN just ran a preview that said he had 11 more points than Larkin last year. Good for him he was 3 years older. Perspective.

I also read an article saying he wants to be closer to home... This is the NHL you take the best situation not so you can go to your parents for family dinner when you'er not on the road. Go home for the summer.

Could be wrong but I don't think the Hayes obsession was near this vesey obsession that is going on

I think there was similar interest to acquire Hayes as there is Vesey, but in terms of hype, Vesey is clearly hyped to be the more finished, ready prospect.

A lot of people are already touting him as NHL ready and a decent amount already saying he can step into an impact top 6 role. Whether you agree with that or not, there is more immediate hype around Vesey than Hayes.

I think there were more pundits on Hayes that he wasnt quite NHL just yet and needed a brief stint (half season?) in the AHL if anything first

Kane & Toews making the Chicago pitch to Jimmy Vesey today, while the B's are sending Jacobs, Sweeney, Neely & Claude.

A) a free wallet player, means nothing if he doesn't pan out.
B) For Vesey this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. 95% of drafted NHL players have to wait until they are 27 (minimum) to choose their destination
C) Hes not over hyping himself, the scouts have pegged him as a player deserving of this much attention.

I love when NCAA picks walk because it always reveals the uppity snobs around here who feel the need to judge players for taking advantage of their own rights. The platitudinous nonsense about "paying your dues" and "owing it to the team that drafts you" gets me every time. Oh, and the predictable parade of people who say "Is this saga over yet?" even though there was never any saga in the first place.

He didn't play a single game in the AHL that year and had 45 points. You never know...

Hayes didn't emerge until his SR year, so the buzz started much later. He finished his junior year with poopgate and a near career ending injury, he was closer to a bust than a stud NCAA player going into his SR year. Schultz had quite a bit of buzz, but I think Toronto's drafting and hiring is what makes the difference when comparing the three.
