So the Sabres are out of it?

No.

Nobody really knows what's really happening except that every team that brought its chequebook did really well.

I don't think any team would have forgotten to bring that important piece of equipment, and so the field is narrowed down to any team he wants to sign with.

This is probably why the Bruins meeting with him was so long. Vesey would have been as flattered with how much faith the Bruins brass had in him just as much as the Bruins brass was confused that Jimmy couldn't play every position at once :sarcasm:

No doubt.

Also someone on Twitter said an inside source said that Vesey and Rask were competing in 1 on 1 drills for starting gig.

Not sure how reliable that is tho.

But you just said why it might make sense? If Vesey and/or his agent are eyeing a good 2nd contract (which is stupid seeing as he hasn't played a game in the NHL yet, but I've seen it speculated a bunch of times before) then the Devils and their abundance of cap space would seem appealing.

If he goes to New Jersey that would be great.
They would be adding McLeod, Hall and Vesey to their offense in one offseason. Whether you're a Devils fan or not you have to admire the considerable improvement in such a short time.
It's basically adding a top 2 line while only subtracting Larsson, that's beautiful.

Which is stupid and bitter, IMO.

As a Sabres fan, there's no winning in this deal. If he signs with us, he's overrated and we wasted a draft pick anyway. If he signs somewhere else, people will say "first the lottery, now the Vesey sweepstakes."

When did we all become Kardashians?

I look at it this way.

If your hoping for him to sign with your team. You're looking at his max potential. Maybe a 25/35 60point winger that compliments a top center.

If you think he's going elsewhere. Then you suddenly looking at his low end potential as a 3rd line 10-15 goal 30 point player that will struggle for minutes.

I think in the end, he'll most likely level off as a solid second wing guy doing 40-50 points.

You can hope for a Chris Drury, Paul Kariya, or Johnny Gaudreau. But there's no guarantees. I don't think he's anywhere near those guys.

Where would Jim Vesey fit on your team going into this upcoming season?

Toronto:

van Riemsdyk - Auston Matthews - William Nylander
Jimmy Vesey - Nazem Kadri - Mitchell Marner
Joffrey Lupul - Tyler Bozak - Leo Komarov
Matt Martin - Brooks Laich - Milan Michalek
Zach Hyman

You need to redo that without Lupul dude. Joffrey Lupul is done, they took away his dressing room stall in the middle of the season and uninvited him from the team photo. He will never play another game with the Leafs.

I'm so sick of this kid. Can't wait for him to not hit 30 pts ever.

Why because he decided to use the rights granted to him via the CBA? it's not like he could've signed July 1st, and has just decided to draw it out. He was allowed to start talking to teams not named the Sabres Tuesday, and probably makes a decision tomorrow or Friday.

The hate this kid has gotten because of this is unreal.

I don't understand how some are so sick of this kid?

This seems like one of the most easily avoidable topics there can be.

So who's really to blame? The kid who's living his life and doesn't give a **** about us or those who intentionally one way or the other follow what this kid is doing?

It's the pendulum effect. There is literally nothing to talk about, so Vesey gets a lot of focus and no small amount of hype. In response to that, people get sick of hearing about him.

Oh I understand that, but people are acting like this is a LeBron "decision" act all over again.

When every hockey news publication is shoving Vesey down their readers throats it's hard to avoid. Like they had a bunch of Stamkos stuff already written then decided to just replace his name. This is thread V, the first I've posted in. Thats nearly 5000 posts. Auston Matthews and John Tavares "pitching" him on their teams. For a player that has never played at a pro level, and likely won't amount to anything more than a middle 6 winger. Ridiculous.

Yet Jiri Hudler one year removed from a 70+ point season and a Lady Byng trophy can't get a paying job.

Certainly should an interesting next couple of days to see how all this turns out.

I wouldn't have too high of expectations of Vesey for his first season but at the very least an nhl team gets their chance to get a potential nhler for the cost of some cash rather then a draft pick.
