If it ends up being Boston after all this, I'm going to be very underwhelmed. This whole thing will essentially have been a waste of everyone's time, because if it's Boston, that pretty much means he knew a long time ago that's where he was going.

And that he basically put all these other teams through all this rigmarole for nothing.

John Tavares spoke out today that he did indeed take part in the Isles pitch to Vesey yesterday. While I still think Vesey chooses Boston, I gotta believe Tavares left a good impression on him. In terms of all the teams that are left that are in on him, aside from the Penguins the Isles were the only team to advance past the 2nd round. Their forward group is as good as any too with Tavares, Ladd, Nelson, Lee, Strome, Parenteau, Cizikas etc. Thats also not even including all the prospects that have in Barzal, Dal Colle, Ho-Sang and Bellows coming up in the system

Well as a life long Bostonian and older than most here, original 6, you have to go back decades to find overall heated rivals.

Far before Vesey was born and his parents were children.

Sox - Yanks is still pretty good. Patriots - Jets is now just so so since Ryan left.

Bruins - Rangers or Celtics - Knicks died 30 or 40 years ago.

So I think that aspect of things wouldnt even register with the kid. A New York area team would fit him well in being close to home but not distracted by home town things.

Hell, I can make it down there in just 3 hours on the Acela. Nice ride and has a bar.

Playing for the Rangers in Manhatten he can see his Harvard buds working on Wall St or Madison Ave, who might even drop by MSG to see some of his games.

Is there a girlfriend involved? Would she like to live near Central Park and go shopping uptown? The kid could probably afford a bit of that.

The Big Apple, you know.

I would be very pleased if he joins the Leafs, but most of all I want this well-deserving college grad to do what's best for Jimmy Vesey.

Overall, if I were him I'd be looking at New York. As in New York, New York. Manhatten. Not Brooklyn or New Jersey.

Either that or Boston.

This week the World is his oyster. I do hope he enjoys it and plays this well.

Really what it is, is he wants to play in Boston, loves the GM, likes the coach, has family and friend connections in organization BUT, he's allowing other good teams to wow him, he does have concerns playing under a spotlight - needs to hear it from horses mouth he'll be given an opportunity and they will handle his development and contracts the right way.

Really it comes down to Sweeney seizing the moment, and a bit of luck that another team doesn't have people there with maxed out charisma

Do you realize that the Rangers practice facility is not in Manhattan? It's probably less of a drive to get to the Devils practice facility in NJ than it is to get to the Rangers in Westchester.

Sure, he'd be playing at MSG in Manhattan, but both the Devils and Isles arenas are quite close as well... although the Isles practice way out in the middle of nowhere long island- you could literally take an Amtrak from downtown Philly and get to MSG faster than you could get from Syosset.

No, let's all trust the poster who can't even spell the damn borough correctly. We all know that my coworker in Brooklyn is CRAZY for living in Manhattan. What a lunatic! Hall has been looking for an apartment in Newark for weeks now and he is very disappointed. He can't go anywhere else!

I think the Rangers are a year away from starting a rebuild

With Vesey, they would have the full 9 top-9 forwards born in the 1990s: Stepan, Zibanejad, Kreider, Miller, Vesey, Hayes, Buchnevich, Fast, Lindberg. Considering how little this group of 9 would cost (at present: $22.55), the Rangers could easily afford to sign a star UFA.

The left defense is strong with McDonagh already a good 1D, while Skjei (a first rounder who developed better than expected) and Graves (an AHL All-Star in his rookie season as a 20-year-old) should be more than capable of filling 2LD and 3LD spots (plus there's a bunch of other LD prospects at least one of whom may surprise).

The only rough spot is on the RD. However, this can be fixed by trading away vets like Zuccarello, Nash, Klein. Brassard brought back a top-6 forward and a second rounder, and Zuccarello is a better player on a better contract and is more of a fan favorite. Klein, likewise, is a quality underpaid defenseman. Zuccarello+Klein would bring back a very, very good young RD from a team looking to win the Cup immediately at the expense of some futures.

Nash is underrated here and will bring back decent assets back as well.

I have a very strong feeling that he's known what team he's going to sign with for a while but told the other teams that he wasn't going to make a decision until after the 15th so now he has to go through all of this. Not really his fault if he wanted to sign with a team. He couldn't say which team since he was property of Nashville and Buffalo.

This kind of reminds of the Eric Weddle FA situation in football.

All these rumors and front runners then boom he's in Baltimore randomly. Out of nowhere.

Yeah, I get that.

Would his friends working 70 hours a week in high-pressure entry-level professional jobs cut out for a few hours to watch him play in Brooklyn or Jersey?

Maybe that wouldn't happen at MSG either -- as you can surely tell, I'm talking through my ass here -- but we both know it's not the same thing.

It doesn't matter where you practice. When the lights come on at game time, there's no comparison to being right at centre stage.

I don't know anything at all about where he wants to go, but if it were me NYR and then Boston would be at the top of my list.

And I'm not even American.

It would sure be nice if he takes a shine to TO instead, but I just don't see that happening.

It would be pretty crazy if he goes to Baltimore. I agree.

Things are looking pretty good for the Bruins after their meeting today. We'll see just how good in a couple of days.

There's a lot of people in this thread that don't follow the Vesey situation but you're the first person who doesn't seem to follow hockey in general.

With no horse in this race.

Islanders are slightly above average.

Boston is very very very average.

Hey, you might know New York like I know Toronto -- which is like the back of my hand -- and know other places like I know New York -- which not very well at all.

For those of us not from New York, there's a big attraction to all parts of NYC (and to New Jersey), but the aura of Manhattan exceeds the rest. That's where I would go.

And I didn't even know how to spell Manhattan.

Mind you, when I came to Toronto from the boonies 35 years ago, I couldn't even find my law school. It's nothing new.
