Rangers are a contender. Not a perennial winner.

I dont think they are a contender anymore.

In the East id choose Washington, Pittsburgh, Florida, Tampa, Islanders, Montreal, to all do better than NYR. And those are my safe bets. Teams like Philly, NJ, Ottawa could also do better.

except that team that is like 10 miles away across the river

are the Rangers really that much better than NJ starting in 2016? I would say no.

Yes they are. Lets not forget Schneider was inhuman in many games last year as was the Devils D. Despite the fact their offense improved a bit I don't know if they will get that same performance in goal or on D again. The Flyers/Devils/Canes are all at major risk of regressing this year. I think one will make the playoffs but two others will drop off significantly.

Schneider is the best tender in the league right now

Such a transparent lie though.

It's a bad look to say that Detroit is too far from home, then immediately turn around and interview with Chicago, which is considerably farther and in a completely different time zone even.

Exactly. Amazingly poorly played by his support group.

People. Please pay attention to the sources you post. Someone with barely any followers on twitter and has no reputation as being legitimate probably isn't a person you should be quoting.

It's like the 3rd tampa fan in the last few hours to come in here and make some sort of silly remark about Vesey.

Almost as silly as someone looking up only stats and pretending to know about him.

[mod]

How do you know what I know about the player? Whats wrong with using statistics? Or do you feel he is a better two way player than Larkin and White? Im sure if you actually have researched or watched the player you know he isnt as good both ways as either of those prospects. I felt that was common knowledge around here especially for an expert like you.

Agreed. These GMs are pro's. You don't need to let them down easy. Just tell them that you liked their pitch and will think things over. Or if you want to give them an answer immediately, tell them that you're unsure if the fit is there or that you don't see yourself in Detroit. Who cares really what you tell them - as long as it's not something so blatantly false that will make you look silly a couple days later if you sign with a team even further away.

Amen. The agent, or whoever gave that quote to Det, needs a butt kicking.

We also made the conference finals in the 2012 playoffs. Its 3 of the last 5 seasons that we've been one of the final 4 teams.

In the last five seasons, here are the teams to win the most playoff series

10: Hawks, Kings
9: Rangers
7: Penguins

Yeah, we are a perennial winner. Just because we don't have a Stanley Cup in recent seasons doesn't mean we aren't one of the biggest winners in the NHL over the last five seasons. Actually, you could say we are more of a perennial winner than those other teams as their "winning" is padded by winning the Cup, while ours is long playoff runs almost every season.

They've been in contention, yes. But they haven't won a Cup in those years and they're trending down in their Cup contention window with a first round and out this past playoff.

Winning a Cup is better than padding your playoff win totals with " long playoff runs ".

McDonagh is 27

All under 26 and in the starting lineup:

Skeji
McIlrath
Stepan
Zibanejad
Hayes
Miller
Kreider
Fast
Lindberg

Point: I think Vesey would fit in just fine, would see room for playing time in the top 6 if he is playing well, has friends here already. There are other factors about the Rangers that have a lot of allure as well.

Anyone trying to perpetuate one team as an undeniable front runner is wrong. That said, disparaging other teams really has no place here either. The Rangers are certainly being fairly considered by Vesey, and for very good reasons; as are several other teams as well. People will have different opinions, arguing is fine but being mean is unnecessary.

Schneider has the best save percentage in NHL history:

pretty sure the LAST thing the Devils need to worry about is goaltending....

there is no chance the Devils regress this year unless Schneider misses a significant portion of the season.

MCD hasn't been the same player since his shoulder injury, Hank is getting older and yes the core of forwards is young but there isn't anything there to write home about. You guys should still be in the playoffs for the next 2-3 years but it's going to be hard to come close to the cup again with that squad unless good trades are made. The downward trend as begun, will Vesey want to be with that kind of future?

...but he's not an overage player. Is this that hard for you to understand?

lol he will be 23 when he debuts professionally, thats overage. Kreider debuted at 21.

Overage is making a professional debut in 2nd or 3rd year of eligibility. Um, hello?

Of course he isnt demanding in person meetings in Boston, but yea, by not keeping an arms distance from teams and him and his agent not deciding that they will be fielding offering via phone call/video chat, they let this evolve into a circus

Any sales person is going to prefer to sit you down in person for their pitch and his agent knows this. They are making this more of a circus than needed with this whole courting process

I totally agree with the circus aspect of this.

Sure he is within his rights to go RFA and all that, no worries there.

But like the above says, THEY are turning it INTO a circus.

This agent or mgt group. Strange.

They tell Detroit sorry he wants closer to home and then the next day tell Chicago fly to Boston. I mean this is amateur hour for this agent it seems to me.

People are really quibbling over the definition of perennial winner?

Lets put it another way. There are certainly a lot of reasons why a free agent would want to join the Rangers, with one of them being how the team has performed over the last five years.

I'm sorry I stepped on the toes of all the people who get mad about anything they slightly disagree with.

Chicago, Pittsburgh and LA are the only true winners in the NHL, I guess.

Okay dude, keep making up things. Nobody has ever said that.

He was eligible at 18, so I guess he's 5 years late? Wow, what an overager!

Not only this, but Vesey close to carried an otherwise pretty weak team. Vesey wasn't playing on a stacked team like Michigan or North Dakota really.

1st. ECAC is an OK conference but Harvard barely had anybody. Michigan plays in the Big10 where offense runs wild.

Because Jimmy Vesey, he the god amongst man, can predict that.

Everyone gave Washington the benefit of the doubt because they lost to Pittsburgh. Everyone knew Pittsburgh was primed for a Cup run. But the Rangers lost to those same Penguins in one less game and they are on a downward trend.

Typical HF hypocripsy.

His next tweet though..

If the aforementioned is accurate info, that exciting for NYR fans.

But, He doesn't even have a contract yet? So, it would be unlikely if this was true, at least unlikely that he hasn't closed yet as he would have likely needed to provide the new contract to qualify for that said mortgage...Unless he purchase in Manhattan as a Cash deal. In which case, God bless him!
