Recalled/Assigned: All-Encompassing Call-ups Thread (4/29: Thomas, 9 others recalled to NYR)

Agreed. He's always been really effective when first inserted into the lineup. He wasnt there long enough last time to hit that point where he starts to be invisible.

And honestly, if Thomas starts off well, I'm not going to expect it to last. He's very young.

keep forgetting he's still just 20

I fail to see what one has to do with the other.

I disagree with his assessment that this move indicates LTIR for Nash but obviously I think we both know that calling people up COULD concievably show that they are still working on Nash's injury and that it COULD turn out to be LT bc concussions are weird like that.

Hell he may turn out correct as well (I don't think he will.) Everyone seems to be a fan of feigning ignorance instead of disagreeing because by feigning ignorance it shows that the idea is so off the mark that it's not even recognizable as a valid response. It's funny sometimes I guess but for me it's too I dunno condescending I guess. He has a valid concern that I think he shouldn't worry too much about

I don't expect anything out of CT. I DO love that i've been hearing he is willing to hit and can effectively lay into a guy so he knows how to use his size. How fast is he?

Also I temper my expectation mostly because he isn't scoring THAT much against AHL competition despite his shot because there is just so much more that a pure shooter needs to be successful

After being a huge fan of the pick based on scouting reports, other posters' comments and YT highlights, I found him pretty invisible during TC and training camp last year. It was disappointing to say the least, but he is super young and there's room to grow and improve.

Just how fast is he? His type of player seems to excel if, and only if, he's got plus speed/quickness. The little guys with offensive skills generally only make it if they can skate themselves open.

Just looking to see those guys really get out there and play for each other tonight. The potential future of the franchise getting a chance to show what they can do together. Awesome.

Thomas will start on the 4th line, per Pat Leonard.

Couple of more tidbits.

Chris Kreider told the NY Post that Thomas is “very high in skill.â€

Thomas told the Hartford Courant this week that he feels he has really started to adjust to the AHL after 50 or so games and that the jump from the OHL was quite large.

I don't really blame Torts in starting a kid who is playing in his first NHL game on the 4th line.

If he sees something from CT he likes I hope the he would be willing to move him up and feed him more minutes.

So will it be Halpern or Mashinter feeding him the puck? :shakehead What's the point in playing him on the 4th line?

I'd guess the idea is to start him there and give him some sheltered minutes to make sure he's capable playing the game at NHL speed since he hasn't even skated with the team yet. If he shows that he can keep up, I bet he'll move up the lines.

I'm very exiting to see Thomas. A line with Kreider, Miller and Thomas is very intriguing as well.

I've had my doubts about this kid for a couple years.

But two things no one can deny, he can shoot and he has heart.

If he can keep his feet moving, he could be effective. Can't get caught in positions where he will be overpowered below the goal line. He has to be evasive.

He lacks the lower body strength to be a more powerful skater and have better balance when being pushed around. And he lacks the upper body strength to push bigger players away.

Those things can improve with age. But right now he can't get caught. Keep moving.

Really?.. Why is it so intriguing to see Thomas with Krieder and Miller.. God bless them both but if your staying up late expecting some kinda... Show?. I think your wasting your time..

I'm worried about Nash with this call up.

why? they needed to call someone up, Nash can be reactivated tomorrow if they want........it gets 12 Fs in the lineup and they dont have to play Bickel upfront.

One of the kids is going to down as soon as Nash is ready and another may go down when Powe is ready

What kind of mood is that? Have some faith of the future. :sarcasm:

No but I have always thought Thomas is a interesting prospect, some question marks for sure but the potential for be a deference maker is there. So yeah I'm exited to watch him play as a Ranger for the first time.

I just find it intriguing with there of our best forwards prospect on the same line. I'm not stupid and expecting multiple goals from them, it would just be fun to see how they do together. But obviously I won't do that when they're playing on different lines.

For staying up late, I basically watching every Rangers games live and a lot more NHL hockey, I'm unemployed you know.
