Recalled/Assigned: All-Encompassing Call-ups Thread (4/29: Thomas, 9 others recalled to NYR)

Wow, team is getting younger by the day. If you told me that at some point during the season we'd see Kreider, Miller, and Thomas dressed at the same time, I wouldn't have believed you. I guess the circumstances behind his call-up are unfortunate (Nash injury) but looking forward to seeing what he can do.

i think its a showcase for a future trade... i hope im wrong though.

I am not reading this transaction as Nash will be out longer than expected. I am looking at this as the team needs more offense for tonight's game. If he performs really well, I would not be surprised if he takes someone job, but it has to be consistent play.

Thomas scores the first goal vs Sharks in NHL 13. maybe its a sign... E.Kane makes it 2-0 now

i hope Thomas has a good game if he plays

Been clamoring for this one recently. I knew he'd get a shot this season, but hoped it wouldn't be this early.

Clearly shows that Nash won't be joining the team. Hopefully Torts takes Bickel out of the lineup instead of someone else, which also means Asham probably won't be going.

Play him on the fourth line and the top PP unit. Set him up near a faceoff dot and let him rip one-timers 'til his arms fall off.

Hope he does well. Not expecting much, if anything, out of him.

The Rangers need more offense even with Nash in the lineup. Welcome to the "cap world". Torts used that word a few weeks ago when Miller was called up and Kreider returned from his broken foot. There are so many young players in this league. Its gets younger and younger every year. The Hawks have returned to the NHL perch because they rebuilt their depth with young players. Leddy. Saad. He scored a nasty goal last night. Plays with Toews and Hossa. Kruger. Shaw. Those young guys have all improved. Of course,Oduya has formed a terrific partnership with Hammer. They have 28-2-7 with Oduya. Regular season.

Interesting move, will be fun seeing him with the big club.
Hopefully he can bring some offence to the team. Lord knows we need it right now

From what Ive seen of thomas, hes had a mediocre ahl season in which he has a hard time realizing the things that worked in juniors you just cant get away with at the professional level. I think he could develop down the line but he's small. I am pretty shocked they called him up.

you know he's been tearing it up for the past 4 games right?

Didn't see this one coming but good for CT.

If there is one thing I feel good about transferring to the NHL with him it's his shot. Just a lethal one timer.

Will he be able to get it off? Who knows. Hopefully.

Remember following him in last seasons camp and preseason. I think he got in two preseason games or so and he did some good things but for the most part looked out of place. He won't have a problem keeping the pace, it's going to be the size factor that's really going to be interesting to see. He'll try and be physical but he's got to be smart about it. Will be interesting to see how he does positionally in this system because its much more detailed.

If he gets in to open space he's got a great shot and one timer but in the corners battling will be an issue at this level unless he keeps his feet moving like Hags. He's got skill but I really didn't expect him to be up. This only would have happened due to injuries IMO and unfortunately it looks like we've gotten to that point (Nash, ugh).

He needs to take advantage of this opportunity for his career. Who knows maybe the Rangers can catch lightning in a bottle for a few games, especially if they use his bomb on the PP. But knowing Torts and this teams history, he'll be put out on the second unit, get 45 seconds of trying to gain the zone and won't get a chance to take a single one-timer because this team seemingly refuses to utilize the one-timer in any situation. and its largely due to the fact that they don't set each other up for them (correctly) often enough.

This is a good opponent to bring him up for because they play that boring counter attack style and their D is not overly large or physical.

This is also sending a message to Richards and comp to step it up on the PP.

He just needs to get open on the PP like Brett Hull used to...back skate, roam around, and just one time it, no questions asked.

Asham may not play tonight again. Playing Bickel is playing 11 forwards. Mashinter provides no offense. Newbury provides no offense. The Rangers need offense.

Not trying to start here but mashinter in his 6 mins a night has looked good in the offensive zone but playing with Boyle and Bickel is no dream. I would love to see him in front of te net on pp. huge body with good luck seems puck found a way to hit him and go in on the Ahl level.

His Dad was a clutch guy...hope the apple has not fallen far from the tree . It could be a showcase..who knows ?

Would love to see a Kid Line...we need the spark .

Mashinter is fine. If he can become the Rangers version of King/Nolan,wonderful. LA won a Cup with Fraser,Nolan and King on their 4th line. The Rangers need to create more offense. Two goals against the Caps with Nash. One goal against the Habs. If Anderson didn't get hurt, the Rangers were getting shutout. They have scored 5 goals in 3 games this week. They aren't going very far scoring less than 2 goals per game.

Whole lot of different reasons this could have happened. Hopefully he makes the most of it regardless of the driving factors. Better get some PP time because I don't see him doing much in 9 minutes at even strength.

If Thomas plays well today, then give some/A LOT of credit for the coaching staff in Connecticut. All our call ups have fit in perfectly.
