Recalled/Assigned: All-Encompassing Call-ups Thread (4/29: Thomas, 9 others recalled to NYR)

Excited to see him in the lineup and especially on the power play. Let's hope he can make some noise.

The Rangers need more offense even with Nash in the lineup. Welcome to the "cap world". Torts used that word a few weeks ago when Miller was called up and Kreider returned from his broken foot. There are so many young players in this league. Its gets younger and younger every year. The Hawks have returned to the NHL perch because they rebuilt their depth with young players. Leddy. Saad. He scored a nasty goal last night. Plays with Toews and Hossa. Kruger. Shaw. Those young guys have all improved. Of course,Oduya has formed a terrific partnership with Hammer. They have 28-2-7 with Oduya. Regular season.

Yeah, rock solid pairings, and 5/6 guys that can play effective minutes on specialty teams.

I recall watching him in preseason games last year I think. He was #53, maybe he'll get it again. Like I said, only thing I'm worried about is his ego and his size. He get get smacked around a lot if he doesn't play to his strengths.

Thomas will suprise alot of people!

Callahan lite, yes, but much better on the PP than Callahan. Or atleast better in the role on the outside. Its just to bad that he shots right.

That's some high praise there. Is he that smart of a player, does he have a similar motor?

This team is getting weaker and weaker by the minute.. Not saying I dont like this move, I do.. but we need McIlrath up here.

Pyatt-Richards-Gaborik
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider-Miller-Thomas

I have my doubts about Thomas working under Torts. Torts wants to battle in the corners and that is Thomas' weak point. Maybe in a different style he would work, but I can't see it working here.

So why exactly was this guy drafted . For the record I wanna see what he can do but this player won't work because of Torts leads me to believe the front office and the Clown are on different pages if that's the case

Damn, he's 5'9, 162lbs? :amazed:
In comparison Kredier is 6'2, 201lbs. and Miller 6'1, 198lbs.

this is all you need to know. Unless this kid is an all world talent, he'll never make this club. even if he scores the obligatory goal or two...

i just hope he is given a chance on the pp...but that might make too much sense for torts

From what Ive seen of thomas, hes had a mediocre ahl season in which he has a hard time realizing the things that worked in juniors you just cant get away with at the professional level. I think he could develop down the line but he's small. I am pretty shocked they called him up.

10 points in his last 12 games. 7 in his last 6. By all accounts from people who follow the Whale regularly, the guy has been on a different level since getting benched a few weeks ago. Also, his best asset is his one-timer and PP skills, two things that the roster lacks. Not that surprising a call-up to me at all. He's on a hot streak, NYR is depleted and his strengths are the team's weaknesses. If he happens to be ready for this level of hockey, now is the best time to find out.

In comparison, Zuccarello was deemed too small at 179lbs.

So yhea, he needs to be really good to stick.
Those are pre-draft height & weight for all 3. Kreider is 6-3 and now well over 200. Thomas may not be much more than 5-9 but he looks more like 185 than 162. Size is less of a detriment than him being a second behind compared to the OHL. Sounds like he's really picked it up in Hartford, let's see what he can do with the big boys.

MZA was fairly affective as a player and playing pretty good hockey pre broken arm .

they need to put Kreider on the RW and Thomas on the LW.

Take advantage of the one-timer opportunities for both guys as they both have very good shots.

Thomas being a right handed shot and Kreider being a lefty can get their shots off faster and with better angles playing their off wings.

Agreed. He's always been really effective when first inserted into the lineup. He wasnt there long enough last time to hit that point where he starts to be invisible.

And honestly, if Thomas starts off well, I'm not going to expect it to last. He's very young.
