great game and win by the USA! the rematch thursday should be a lot fun.

binnington and parayko both played well. shocked to see parayko fight. miller begging for a fight and parayko having 6" of reach on him made for an entertaining final bout.

binner should want that first goal back, but he also assisted on canada's only goal and reliably bailed out canada's defense with saves and playing the puck. hellebuyck was better, but binner still played well.

shoutout to faber and slavin, both had phenomenonal defensive games and logged 25+ mins. they deserve a lot of the credit for making mackinnon and mcdavid ineffective. the rest of the USA squad also did a great job disrupting the top of the zone and back checking too. so many canadian turnovers right inside the blue line forcing canada to reset, it was great to see.

expect makar back for the rematch and another intense game. this is so much better than the all-star break!

Sounds like Canada fans and some people on this forum have a lot in common
Yeah, they have eyes and can see that he got Outgoaltended by the guy in Blue. Just because he plays for our team does not mean we should deny reality. He is a large factor as to why Canada lost.

Love the reaction on the goals!

All Binnington had to do was get a shutout and this one was in the bag!
I hate doing what if's bc the game would be played entirely different if it was 1-1 than it actually was played. BUT since are here, all he had to do was not let in swiss cheese and the game "WOULD" have been 1-1 in OT that is 10mins of 3on3 I believe. You honestly think Canada would not win in a gimmick OT with the speed they have?

Lots of blame to go around for Canadia. Binner gets the most IMO, goalie's cant shit the bed like that against elite teams in the playoffs or these tourneys and expect to win when the margins are so close.

The offense scored one goal. NHL teams are 12-240 this season when scoring a single goal.

This is on the offense. End of story.

As an aside, I'm going to laugh my ass off if they start Hill in Game 3 and he ends up giving up 6 to the Finns. I would love to see Rantanen put up a hat trick while MacKinnon watches.

Binner’s in a no-win situation and I hate it for him. If Canada were to beat USA 4-3 Thursday, Binner would get zero credit. And anything less than Canada winning the tournament = Binnington is terrible and it’s all his fault. I agree with others here, I hope they put in Hill and he gets lit up. And my support for Binner in this tournament is somewhat selfish. If he’s the hero of the tournament, maybe it boosts his trade value if the Blues decide to go that direction.

Another thing, I don’t think it’s a gimme Canada makes it to the final. And if they do I definitely don’t think it’s a gimme we beat them again.
I think unless they have a goalie meltdown, they are pretty safe for the finals. The people in charge 1000% will pull strings to help make it happen too. Money talks.

Canada's loss was completely on their offense. Binner and Parayko played a great game. Does Binner wish he had that one goal back? Sure. But that happens. You don't win many hockey games scoring one goal and if you were to tell me Canada's offense with all their firepower was going to be held to one goal, i'd have called you a liar. It's unbelievable how disruptive the American defensive game was. Full throttle in your face defensive pressure that did not let up for a shift. Add Helly on top of that....

To be honest, I was hoping America won in just this manner. Binner only letting in two against that much talent is awesome. I know some people are hating on him but he doesn't deserve it.

Hell of an entertaining game though. Loved everything about it. Especially the fights to kick it off. Parayko kicked that dudes butt. Great way to get the juices flowing and anyone who doesn't enjoy that is a (what did Eastwood call em?) lol.

Solid analysis. One reason I get frustrated when talking about goalies is it seems fans focus way too much on so-called "weak" goals. The truth is that every goalie is going to let in goals that he could have stopped, and it's going to happen fairly often. Now obviously if it happens too often or in key moments of the game it's a problem, but I feel like goalies are in an unfair position. Every "mistake" is magnified a lot more than the credit they receive for making difficult saves.

OK, the 1st US goal wasn't great from Binner's perspective, but also how many tough saves did he have to make? Does it balance out in the end? If he had stopped Guentzel's shot but allowed a goal later on a more difficult opportunity, then no one would be complaining but the result would be the same. I'm pretty sure Hellebuyck let in a weak goal against Finland, and some of the goals in the Sweden/Finland game (including Granlund's game winner) were very stoppable as well. It's just the nature of the business that when you have professional hockey players firing pucks at you that some of them are gonna go in that technically could have been stopped.

All you can really ask is that the goalie plays well enough to give the team a chance to win, and I don't see how anyone can say Binner didn't do that. He wasn't outstanding, but he certainly didn't play badly either. Obviously Hellebuyck played better but the main factors were an extremely solid US defense and a Canada offense that couldn't get the job done in the end.

Don't worry, Helly will fail as soon as someone reminds him this is an important game.

Add to that that Binner had as many points in that game as McDavid....lol. Pretty impressive.

Ouch. All I can say is that if Canada makes it to the Finals against us, I will be very worried. Not necessarily because of Hellebuyck, but I can't imagine shutting down that offense two games in a row. I bet they are going to destroy Finland tomorrow.

I can’t remember who said it but I like their prediction:

Canada will either win like 8-1 or lose. Really have to imagine they’re going to push to the edge this afternoon.

Game starts soon. I’m still on team Canada.
