like others have mentioned too Panarin is shooting way more, like he’s one of the highest volume shooters in the league this year. you can see it in trochecks shot rates too which are pretty down from last year. it is what it is and Laf has dramatically improved across the board, im thrilled
Which is a very good thing since Trocheck is a below average finisher. Him playing a role where he shoots less makes him more effective.

It's too bad his terrific play hasn't carried over to our other "good" line.
Would be terrific complementary 5 on 5 exciting hockey.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this: against Montreal, I was only able to access the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast on ESPN+. The announcers were effusive in their praise of Laf. They showed some still photos of him working out in the weight room over summer and mentioned that he came to training camp six pounds lighter. This kid is still growing, what should be next in power play time. He might never be a generational player or even a franchise player (though I have not given totally up on that possibility) but he is, now, a quality NHL forward, and should continue to get better and become more productive.

He's playing way beyond the modest expectations I set for him based on what I saw early in the season. If he was being force-fed PP minutes like some of the other young players on crappier teams he would for sure be close to a point per game right now. And don't give me the crap that it's his fault he's not on the first unit - a coach isn't going to mess around with one of the most productive PP's in our franchises history.

I'm hoping Kakko has been watching intently and drawing inspiration.

You mean he wasn’t drinking and just playing softball?

While I believe that Laf's play deserves praise, I'd take anything the Montreal media says with a grain of salt.

One thing that isn't really measured is whether or not someone is a "locker room guy". Laf does seem to have this intangible and I think will ultimately bring him to wearing a letter for the team. Something as silly as him starting a moustache trend with the vets Kreider and Trochek shows a lot of character. I've also noticed that everyone punches him in the handshake line (someone needs to make a compilation of this lol). It's great to see that he's now finding a balance between being a goofball and showing up each shift and putting in effort. A player like this is invaluable when the team is in the trenches during the playoffs and needs a boost.

Whats a little crazy is while we have Laffy in a good spot finally - we were forecasting a natural jump for this team considering the development of Chytil and Kakko as well.

They started off good, but as we know havent been producing or out of the lineup all together for a majority of the year - yet the Rangers are still tops in the league.

If we could, somehow - harness this Laf energy, channel it - into the Chytil & Kakko - it just might work. Send this team to another level.

Laf has arrived. 21 ES points compared to Stutzle’s 25. And Stutzle is playing 21:41 a game and on PP1. Guy would be at 35 points, at least by now.
