You do not have to agree. IMO Gallant knows this team very well and he knows what he is doing. He is a very good head coach. Drury has done a good job in his first year as GM. If Chytil (before injury), Kakko, and Laf are good enough to be playing in the top 6 then they should do very well on our 3rd line going against other teams 3rd pairing defensemen.
If the line was going to do well, it would have done well.

We've seen it already. It's a bad line.

Well when the coaches think that any of those 3 players will make the team better in the top 6 they will be put back with them. Both Laf and Kakko have both played top 6 multiple times already.

And they (both the players and the lines) have gotten great results. We had a winning record every month.

trade him we have too many LWers

They do have too many left wings, especially when you consider that Kreider and Panarin are signed through 2027 and 2026 respectively. Also consider the Rangers top prospect at this point is Brennan Othmann (though Dylan Garand in net is a pretty good looking one too) and that they also potentially have Will Cuylle on the left as well (though I'm not certain he'll translate his game to the NHL yet).

On the other hand, the Rangers are also in Salary Cap troubles for the next two years at least, so low cost players are going to be necessary in that time.

For my mind, it doesn't make sense to trade Lafreniere before the next trade deadline, because he's on an ELC and likely will outproduce his salary by some stretch. He's also shown some stretches (like Kakko) where when he's playing with confidence, you see the skill set there, not to mention that he's been pretty productive at 5v5.

Where he'll top out, and what to do with the logjam at left wing does need to be worked out though.

Kreider's contract converts from a full NMC to a partial NTC (15 teams) in 2024-25, so that gives you two more years before you have some options for trading him. It's also possible that Lafreniere grows into a more confident right winger, or at least a guy who is more comfortable playing both wings.

With all that said, if someone offered up a promising young center in exchange for Lafreniere, then I'd really consider that. Not sure that will ever happen though, so the value you're getting back in a trade is probably more likely going to be less than what you'd get out of keeping him.

So for the moment I think you keep in. Next trade deadline depending on what Othmann's doing, how the team is doing in general and also how Lafreniere looks...I then maybe revisit it.

That's my thing with the "he hasn't earned it" crowd.

Maybe he hasn't. Do you really think it would be different if he had?

We saw it happen. He was on career-best run and took a demotion because it was about things-n-stuff, not results.

The Rangers are always like that with forwards.
That's ok... we don't need 50 goal scorers... that we draft.

2 is fine for an original 6 team that is nearly a century old.

Only way he gets traded if he asks for one. Can't blame him with how things have gone.

In an alternate universe, Laffy requests a trade to go home and we get Montreals top pick ( Cooley or Wright )

Dont see it happening

We aren’t trading Lafreniere and we will trade Kreider before we entertain moving Laf.

I think it was framed as a rest day for a player on a team who has clinched a playoff berth.
No matter the reason, he's not playing well - from everything I've seen and read.

Sam Bennett looked far worse at this point of his career and the talent eventually came out. I hope it happens here, too. I just hope we don't have to wait until his mid-20's.

We have a lot of fowards. Players are going to sit a game here and there esp with playoffs starting soon. He’ll be back next game.
