I can hear it now. Laviolette is screwing Lafreniere. He has 4 points in his first 15 games. Yea, he plays Laf for 1:30 to start every PP, but he’s dumb. He has Lafreniere playing in the bumper spot on the PP. Everyone knows that’s not where he played as a 16 year old in the Q. “This team has no idea how to develop talent.”

Not for nothing, this team used to demote young guys who struggled and a lot more often than not it greatly benefited the player and team in the long run. It got them rolling, confident, and let them get back to being a go to guy. Now everyone wants to make them the round peg in a square hole forcing them into positions where they are clearly not the best option.

New development staff? That's what they need.

I keep forgetting two things when it comes to Laf.

1) It's not about developing the skills a player already should have entering the NHL, but it's about teaching them how to play the whole game again. We gotta' develop these kids like they're in peewee again.

2) Accountability for how a player plays no matter his position on the team is found everywhere else in the NHL... except on this team. Blame the million dollar player? LOL. Of course not. It's everyone else's fault for the player's shortcomings except the player. Whenever these kids really break out I hope it's the development staff pulling the monkey's off their back and not the player themselves. LMAO.

Idk what Lafreniere’s career will become, but CK’s 11-12 playoff run blew the doors off of Lafreniere’s two playoffs. That’s straight fact - not an opinion. He was a weapon. There’s a reason CBJ were dying to get him for Nash. CK flashed. Laf hasn’t yet, but I sure hope he does.

You can make excuses for Laf all you want. Ice time, linemates, 2 head coaches, skills coach… Bottom line is the early returns are not promising, and just constant excuses get irritating after awhile… that’s not saying Lafreniere can’t flip the script as early as next year, but let’s call a spade a spade. The guy was closer to an AHL stint than PP1.
When CK came in he always had dominant power and speed and a solid snapshot. He was a threat. I wish he used those aspects of his game much more nowadays.

Is there any news on Laffy’s training regimen this off-season?

The early returns are fine for me, 40 points last year with no PP time. Think that jumps to 55-70 if he’s put in a position to score points on the PP

I wish people would stop focusing on points so much. Look at Vegas. They won with their leading scorer as a guy with around 65 points. We need impact guys more than empty assist accumulators.

Eichel had 66 pts in 67 games.
That’s a point per game player.

That is good but plenty of ppg players who dont win the cup. Eichels stats would have been 5th best on the Oilers. We had 90 point players. They beat McDavid and Leo who are 130-150 point guys. Guys like Marshessault, Stone, Karlsson, etc are not looked at as great players based on stats but their playoff impacts were far greater than just regular season stats.
I want our guys to be 5 on 5 impact guys. The points will come but a bunch of pp secondary assists are not my goal for guys. Impacts/winning is my goal.

The knights run was incredibly impressive, as was the panthers, but to me it felt like both runs were more about how important it is to get the right bounces than anything else.

You are right that bounces play a legit role. Need to get in to the playoffs to have a chance. Once there health, luck, being hot, etc all play a role. VGK really played as a team. 5 beats 3 often. They really maximized their talents as a unit. I never would have predicted a Florida vs VGK finals before the season. Shows how little I know lol. :D

Boston losing to Florida was the insane one.
They got goals at the exact right times to counter punch perfectly.

40 pts is 40 pts. Not 39 points.

Which is what Laf had.

So tired of some blaming EVERYONE but him for his underwhelming start.
Complete no show against our 2nd biggest rivals.

Good offer comes along, I'd move him.
Great offer I'd consider. Good offer I'd probably wait because he is 21. That is still very young. I do agree its on him to improve. Not on coaches, franchises or hot dog vendors.

Sure he scored 39 points.

I think the question is what is a “good offer”
Because even if you’re upset at his production, he’s still a 39 pt winger who out produced Ck at even strength, and should be relatively cheap the next few years.
Anyone who we trade him for will likely either be a “project” in a similar sense who likely won’t put up similar numbers, or a draft pick who’s further away.
So you lose actual production for future production.

Nothing from Vancouver.
Logan Cooley would be on my wish list if Arizona was entertaining.

dude that kid is untouchable. he will inflict much damage within the next 3 seasons.

Wasn't even thinking of Chytil. I'd be open to any player that could improve us. They are separated by 4 years.
i would love to see kreider-trochek-chytil on the same line.

Id be open to seeing that but my concern is we have a lot of nice but mismatched puzzle pieces without an identity. I would look to change that. The easiest and cheapest line to change that is the 4th. The hardest are in the top 6.

Hits are a pretty meaningless stat and not all hits are created equal. I say this acknowledging CK’s physical game can be quite inconsistent at times, but still flashes a lot more than Lafreniere. I also have yet to see anything like CK running over Carey Price from AF.
Meaningless to you perhaps. But the stat is kept for a reason and when we talk about any other player hitting the stat is just fine it seems. No one had a problem with it when I’ve talked about it with Blais or Reaves or any other player but suddenly when it’s a positive about Laf, it’s “meaningless”. Isn’t that magically convenient? Also CK was tripped into Carey Price, remember? He didn’t run him over unless you are a hysterical Habs fan. Hahaha. The hit I mentioned on Okposo was as heavy as any hit Kreider has thrown in his career. And I’m fine with our players NOT running over goalies anyway. WTF kind of criteria is that?

You know, more than one thing can be true at a time. For instance:
1. Laf has a long way to go, and has disappointed as a 1OA pick.
2. Laf has had a way better NHL career than Kreider had through his D+3, and in fact outscored Kreider in their first playoff runs as well.
3. Laf will have a way better D+4 NHL season than CK did (3 points in 23 games.)
Are all true.
