If laf is getting powerplay time, id like to see 60-70 points, I think thats easily achievable considering he got almost 40 at ES.
the guy still hasn't passed or let alone hit 40 pts and you're still wanting to see 60-70 pts happen? kinda like waiting for a public bus to arrive but there is no bus stop sign there at where you're standing. maybe one day that bus stop sign will be put up there but until then that wait and be for a real long time.

35 even strength points, with about 15 minutes a game isn’t a tough jump to 60 points with pp time and about 18-19 total minutes.

i suggest you look at his stats this past season. he only scored 7 pts out of 24 games when on the ice for 15 minutes or longer.

Ryan Reaves does that stuff too. Who really cares?

The point of the exit interviews is for him to speak up about that sort of thing. He absolutely should mention his opinion on the coach especially if he's asked about it.

Yeah I don’t know why this is a big deal. He is giving feedback in a supposedly private and internal interview. It’s not like he went publicly airing dirty laundry and throwing Gallant under the bus.

The question is really who leaked this little tidbit of info? And not long after we see a targeted piece about Lafreniere’s supposed lack of offseason dedication. I’m not a tin foil hat kind of guy, but this smells like the higher ups involved are leaking stuff back and forth with Lafreniere caught in the crossfire.

Fairly wild take here.
Next season will be Laf’s D+4, with any luck at all, he will break 50 points.
Kreider’s D+4 he scored 3 points in 23 games…
No, I would not sign up for Chris’ FULL career for Laf, never mind half. I think he will be far better when all is said and done. This is not running down Chris, I’m a fan and I hope he can retire a NYR. Last year, in his D+3, Laf already scored half of Chris’ career best year and played a more consistently physical game.
As I said, this is a wild take.
You can have the journeyman... I'll take Kreider every day & twice tomorrow.

Time will sort it out I suppose.

There’s no argument. Laf isn’t 1/1000 of Kreider
Kreider has been elite at times… certainly net front elite. Laf doesn’t have “elite” in his vocabulary

Again, we would ALL sign up right now for Laf to have half of 20’s career because everyone knows where this is heading… some don’t wanna say it because it hurts like hell… but we know.

I wouldn't even sign up for him to have Kreider's exact career lol

I remember when people said the same thing about Kreider. How his 2011-12 playoffs was a fluke, and how he wasn't "NHL ready," wasn't good enough on the defensive side of the puck, wasn't enough of a team player, and therefore Torts was "justified" in relegating him to the stands on a 2012-13 team that was desperate for secondary scoring.

There is literally no NHL forward prospect in history that has developed into a top level offensive player by honing their craft in the bottom 6. Why the Rangers continue to think this is a thing, is part of the reason they are so bad at developing forwards.

Disagree. The bus is the single worst, least efficient, most unplesant user experience in transportation in the entire world.

Nothing in sports even comes close. I'd rather wait another 54 years for a Stanley Cup than ever have to rely on a bus as part of a daily commute ever again.

Signed,
Someone who will never have to rely on a bus as part of a daily commute ever again.

Yup. It will. And if I’m wrong I’ll freely admit it. Kreider is at 0.65ppg over his regular season career which started at his D+4. I certainly expect Laf to average better than that from his D+4 to Kreiders age. As a 21 year old, D+3 player he was pretty much 0.5ppg With practically no pp time, never mind pp1. But again, I really LIKE Kreider, I’m not pitting them against each other.
And honestly, labeling a 21 year old, who just scored 0.5ppg, a journeyman seems just a TAD premature as well.

You are demonstrating that him getting more than 15 minutes was pretty rare. Consistency in ice time matters. Responsibility and consistent minutes don’t just provide more time to score in, but build confidence and momentum for a player.

That’s a meaningless stat, unless the stat is that he’s scored 7 points in the 15+ minute of ice time.

If he doesn’t score in minutes 1-15 there’s nothing that magically changed in minutes 16-18.

If the stat was his scoring rates are significantly higher in minutes 1-10 of ice his time, and significantly lower in 12-15 that would be meaningful

40 out of 81 games with 15 min or more...

You cannot compare CK to Laf
CK even when not producing always showed that flash of speed, shot, tenacity, engagement, aggressive, ect.
Laf gives you none of that.
You cannot compare CK to Laf more because CK didn’t play a regular season game till his D+4 where he scored a whopping 3 points in 23 games… Laf gave us more hits/agression (141 hits to 128) than CK this year with CK getting 20% more minutes per game. I don’t care about looks/flash shown that isn’t producing results.
The overall point here though we can’t even compare apples to apples yet and I’m positive Laf has a better D+4 season in the NHL than Chris did. Maybe D+5 will go a way that suits that narrative. In his D+5 CK scored 0.56 ppg which is marginally better than Laf’s D+3 numbers. Hopefully for our sakes as fans this conversation will seem silly by then.

Nothing pleases me more BH than your posts. LOL.

I'm glad that one of the bright sides for our most touted draft pick since I can remember is that he hits and has aggression enough to have more PIMs than points in his second season and was 3 penalties away from matching PIMs with his points this year. Shame on CK for not being more aggressive. With Reeves gone we need a 3rd liner enforcer like Laf to protect the team.

I, for one, am looking forward to Laf breaking out in D+10.

CK also had insane work ethic since his college days. Jumping out of the pool? The deadlifting videos? He’s always been serious about his craft in ways that no one else (other than Hank) has been as long as I’ve been watching NYR.

Yea this is what gives me a slither of hope with Laviolette. It's always pointed to Washington but the young players there weren't anything close to the quality that Philly, Nashville, and now the Rangers. Even Carolina had young Staal, Williams, and Ladd.

In those spots he had the top young players among the team lead in scoring and were leaned on.

I'm not asking for or expecting the Rangers roster to be filled to the brim with 23 and under drafted players. But we have a 1st overall and a 2nd overall ready to break out, we have Chytil ready for a bigger role, we have Othmann who just nearly willed his team to a Memorial Cup Championship, and Cyulle who is clearly ready.

Lafreniere and Kakko at the least should be cemented in the top 6 and on the PP. Kakko on the PK. That needs to be done.

On defense Jones or Robertson need to be in the lineup. people can poo poo Jones size all they want but he brings something nobody else on the roster does, and that's the transition game. Nevermind his AHL career translated from NCAA flawlessly. He's producing at a consistent rate. He can do it at the NHL level with more than a few games chance.
Why should they be stapled to the top 6 and PP? When have they shown to be the best options for those positions? Are we deciding this purely on age and draft pedigree?

If they are the best options, then sure… I haven’t seen that yet.

What am I missing? Lafreniere is doubling his production? From 35ish to 70? Lafreniere looks a lot more like a 3rd line winger than top line producer.

The guy still hasn't even broken 200lbs and until then he's just a depreciating asset. Why are we really expecting this guy to change? Is it because he's 21?
If he's still hovering around the 195 mark by training camp it's time to get him the f*** out of here within the next year because my initial hunch of him not caring is even worse than I originally thought.

What players at #1 or even in the top-15 of an NHL draft are the exact same size they were when they were 18? Kakko went from 194lbs at the scouting combine to a now reasonable 206lbs and he's continuing to grow and fill into his frame every year. The way I see it, keep Kakko at all costs, Laf is the guy you move on from rather than clinging onto false hope and going insane expecting change.

I'd send Lafreniere on a plane to Vancouver tonight if it meant getting the #11 and drafting Brayden Yager or Riley Heidt to compete with what the Devils have in Mercer. Had we drafted Martin Necas or Robert Thomas in 2017 I really wouldn't be having these thoughts. It's a gamble yes, but one I would be willing to take if it means juicing up our youth even more because Lafreniere just doesn't seem to be the guy this New York team needs when it comes to competing against our own metro rivals.

Does Kreider look like a top line winger? Because Laf out produced Kreider at es this year.
So for all this talk about disappointing, Laf didn’t have a bad year, just a bad year with insane expectations and a coach who refused to give him a chance.

So you are removing CK’s net front PP skill to this equation? Which is his greatest asset? You’re also leaving out CK being useful on the PK? Yes, I’m saying Kreider is a top line player, and Lafreniere is not.

Lafreniere did not earn PP time. He was mediocre at even strength and doesn’t kill penalties. That’s not to say he won’t improve. He was what he was last year. A 35ish point 3rd line winger. You can discuss ES ice time. Offensive zone starts. Lack of ice time. Lack of line mate chemistry. Not being in the top 6. Whatever you want. It’s all noise. I guess hypothetically every young player would score more if they were on a top line and played the whole 2 minutes of every PP. He’s not one of the 5 best offensive players on the team. This is the NY Rangers, not the NY Lafreniere’s. It’s Gallants fault. It’s Dury’s fault. It’s the skill coaches fault. It’s the trainers fault. Lafreniere needs to be better. Trying to flip numbers around to somehow show Lafreniere is doing a great job is pointless.

thank you - i stand corrected. it was that he only scored 7 pts out of 24 games with 16 min or more.

and to idevgo - how is this a meaningless stat? he had more ice time to show his stuff and ehh not a whole lot was really shown. if anything with less time on ice he seemed more efficient. less exposure? less energy spent? if you first crack 40 then yeah maybe we can then expect something insane like reaching 60-70 pts someday.

in all honesty i'm content if he winds up a solid 3rd liner at this point. for me it's his last shot to reach whatever magical and satisfactory milestones supporters and laffy clan members expect. gallant the scapegoat is no longer here, so copers can no longer use that as a crutch to lean on if the kid still doesn't meet 10A expectation. the new guy in town means a clean new slate for the kid. may surprise us and just have his jersey raised real high up the garden rafters.
