So you see him as a top 10 forward in the league? Sorry i don't see it. They are both 100+ point players, and showed elite play early on. Laf has upgraded from useless to useful since being promoted but still doesn't look like anything special.
When did they show elite play? They are having somewhat similar age 20 seasons. Difference being Laffy not getting assists but I don't see that as a Laffy issue.

even strength @ age 20
Draisaitl 72GP - 14G - 28A - predominantly with Hall and Purcell
Rantanen 75GP - 16G - 12A - predominantly with MacKinnon and Landeskog

Laffy projected 79GP - 19G - 7A

those assists are the outlier. Playing predominately on the 3rd line with a struggling Chytil and Gauthier hasn't helped.... as well as a team that has struggled 5v5 overall.

His numbers can take off in the final 20+ games

Habs first for Lafreniere is being floated around in our board. What do rangers fans think of that?
If the habs get 1st overall, and throw in next years unprotected as well...

not doing it before the lotto, and you're talking about trading a player whos finally developing, for a player who's still in the CHL.

He's not going anywhere. 7 points in 12 since the top-line promotion, I believe. A confident, more decisive player with Zib and Kreider, while playing PP2 with guys that can't score if their lives depended on it. Why would they trade a guy they could've made a good return on for one draft pick that won't even be 1OA?

what's your defintion of elite?

I see him falling somewhere in between Rantanen and Draisaitl. So, I'm most definitely optimistic he will be 'elite'.

Laffy will be a 70-80pts player next season if he takes Strome spot on PP1
So he will be somewhere between the 2nd and 10th best forward in the league in your estimation? I think you should lower your expectations a bit.

Ah yes, more rewriting of history.

I look forward to seeing this more frequently as time goes forward.

Lafreniere didn't start producing until he was given lots of ice time with good players. Before that, he was doing diddly squat. In fact, for the first couple of games with Kreider and Mika he was doing diddly squat.

It's the chicken and the egg. Except in this case there is a definitive series of cause and effect.

There is a contingent who would like to gaslight people into believing that Lafreniere somehow "earned" his way onto Kreider and Mika's line by producing with lesser players in a lesser role. That definitively never happened.

Let's not forget that when Kakko comes back, has a few bad games and then proceeds to look like a trash player on the 3rd and 4th lines.
I feel like this is completely false. In terms of teammates and ice-time lol.

I actually do think Lafreniere not getting assists is at least a partial Lafreniere issue, but I think it's one that corrects itself over time.

Having seen him nail beautiful passes that aren’t converted, I’d say it’s maybe 1/10 on him and 9/10 on his line.

He has had hesitation issues, turnover issues, and speed/skating issues.

I'd say it's closer to 50-50, but again, I don't think it means he can't fix some things to drastically increase that output on his own.

Had is a good word. Since moving to the first line I’d say a lot of those aren’t anywhere near as prevalent

LMAO. 80pt player hanging with Draisaitl if we just move him to PP1.

Didn't think it was that simple.

I will take a 23-24' season NYR board ban if Laf somehow makes that much of a jump.

At this point of his progression and what I am seeing from him, him hitting 70-80 points I think is highly unlikely. Trust me, I would like to be proven wrong. I think at his peak, he will hit 60 some season, but I would imagine that is as high as he gets, and to not expect him to get to that number consistently.

Again, if he can fix his skating quite a bit, that could radically change things, but right now I see "solid player" as his ceiling.

Zibanejad, Kreider and Fox are pacing for 70-80 points this season. On what planet is Laf reaching that total next? Even with regular PP time?

There’s reasonable expectations and just wishful thinking.

Kid’s not there yet. He might never reach that.

He doesn't do anything elite so I'm not sure how fans can expect him to get a ton of points.
Granted points aren't everything.
If he was on any other team we'd be laughing our heads off that he got picked 1st overall and saying how much he sucks.

Im not going into stats, but the problem with Rantanen comparison is that Rantanen was the ultimate missing piece of that line and MacKinnon's game upgraded when Rantanen came into that line. MacKinnon's and Rants production has been also pretty similar from day 1.

Laf will be great goal scorer, just dont know will he be great goal scorer like Matthews or Skinner.
