VK is not even close to talent AK was, and I really like VK. It’s not close. When Kovy was on, he was exhilarating to watch. I feel like Kravtsov will follow in his steps. Hopefully at least from a production standpoint.

Kovalev has the best hands of any player that's ever played the game.VK is not even close to talent AK was, and I really like VK. It’s not close.
The 27 in my username may or may not be indicative of bias.Kovalev has the best hands of any player that's ever played the game.
I'm a MTL fan since the late 70s.. Laff has potential that I believe is salvageable, but NYR is def not the right team for him (winning curve). He would flourish in MTL, hometown etc... Slaf buys you equal value and an extra 3 years of ELC, so that is why you have to give up the late first this year.I don't think they do that, honestly. And by "they", I mean Montreal.
Datsyuk came up in my mind too, but I think Patrick Kane has to be right there too. He basically reinvented the sport for a generation of players to follow.I’ve still got Datsyuk over Kovalev. If he wasn’t so committed to being a Selke level complete player, I’m sure he could have doubled, or even tripled, his dangles per 60. If he played with the mentality Kovy did, I think it’s fair to imagine Dats could have been the most magical puck handler in history.
How about a 6 point month. Start small.could have a 6 point night and there'd be tears about how he hasn't been trying for 2.5 years
Don't think he's on a list.I don’t want to come off as a Laf hater but he looks like a kid who needs a change of scenery. It’s not lost on me that every other 1st rounder on the roster is showing signs of progress and he’s stagnating.
Guys are going to need to get paid soon, and how high is Laf on the priority list?
Honestly Slaf’s rookie scoring is tracking similarly to Laf’s rookie scoring while also getting some PP time. Their rookie TOI avg are close. Hes a big kid but I’ve seen him absolutely abused physically this season. I believe he left the game yesterday early with an injury too. I’m sure as his man strength comes that will even out.I'm a MTL fan since the late 70s.. Laff has potential that I believe is salvageable, but NYR is def not the right team for him (winning curve). personally i think it makes sense from both sides. Slaf is very raw, but has mind boggling power and size - only downfall is if NYR dont develop him properly (which is part of their MO atm).

Somewhere between Bobby Granger and Aaron Voros.Guys are going to need to get paid soon, and how high is Laf on the priority list?

The thing is that the NYR are not going to give this kid the top line minutes and PP time, just as they didn’t give it to Laf and IMO he will have a similar development curve to Laf here. He’s not a shifty small player like Hughes or Zegras, he’s going to need more time than that type. And that means more years of having to hear the bust experts freaking out. Hahah. No thanks, Laf will be blossoming well before Slaf would be here. All we would be doing is starting the painful process over. hahaha. Like Sisyphus rolling that rock up the hill again.
I can see people not having faith in Laf and being up for the swap, thinking the NYR will for some reason put Slaf on a faster development track, but I don’t see it going much differently. And adding a 1st THIS year to the deal? Absolute double nope for me.
And he doesn’t exactly have the IQ or creativity of Francis or Oates. He just does not skate well enough, that is the entire issue.
Fair take. I’m just afraid in two years we’d be sitting where we are now again.Wouldn't Slaf fit better in our timeline though? Even if we did start over with him, he's 18. Still, I'm in agreement that I wouldn't give up a 1st for that trade. I'd give a 2nd or a 3rd though.
fair enough - and while i have always liked the Rangers (since Cool hand - Ron Duguay lol) - my thinking in such a trade would be that you save the extra money on the ELC for the next three years, which buys extra time in your current window to add another piece this summer. But you are right, Slaf is raw - but his compete level is through the roof.. in that his numbers are actually quite impressive on such a bad team (with brutal washed up vet scrubs) for the most of his time here. He was about to make the leap to 2nd line duty centred by Monahan, but then Money got hurt and well, our depth drops drastically after top line.Honestly Slaf’s rookie scoring is tracking similarly to Laf’s rookie scoring while also getting some PP time. The Rangers are not moving Laf.If Laf gets moved it won’t be for picks or more prospects. It will be more a forward or D on a good contract that can help them win now.
