He led the team in 5v5 goals last year and was T-33 in the league. Stop being biased because you love all the prospects.
I think AK is saying that it’s bad bc he’s tied for the team lead with 6. There are 45 players league wide with 7 or more goals at Evens.

In terms of 5v5 G/60, the team has a whopping 3 players in the league’s top 150. Kreider is 181st in the league among F’s in 5v5 G/60. 218th among all skaters

Yes, and I'm saying it's bad to make conclusions as such based on 23 games. Unless, of course, you believe that nearly the entire team lost their shooting talent over the summer and will continue to shoot at 7%

Sure, small sample size, but that's ALL of the games so far this year... so if we are talking about this year thus far...

I can't say how effective or ineffective Mark Ciaccio has been, but he was basically pulled from the Arizona Coyotes out of nowhere by Glen Sather in 2013. Prior to that was asked by Gretzky to be the Coyotes skill coach and worked with them for some time.

He does originate from the Laura Stamm program and the players seem to love him. He's been a tandem with Allaire and survived multiple coaching changes with Benny.

But when it comes to Lafreniere im wondering if he needs an additional 1 on 1, customized training program from someone outside the organization. To me, skating is his biggest weakness at this level.

I dont know how much it can improve, but we did see Brian Boyle improve his skating pretty dramatically in year 4 after his first year with the team.

The Rangers sent Boyle to work with Barbara Underhill in the offseason prior, when he was 26 years old. Maybe Laf would benefit from something like that and hes at a much younger age.

His overall game and offense noticeably improved and it pretty much saved his career. Boyle wasnt a 1OA, but he was a first rounder, selected 26th by the Kings, so it wasnt like he didnt have a good pedigree.

Agree with most of what you wrote and would be interested to see Laf work with a skating coach, but to be real about Boyle, he only got drafted first round because:
1)it was 2003 and teams still had prelockout priorities
2)he's 6'7"
3)he wasn't a complete no-talent goon, in which case he would've gone mid/late round depending on his points*BMI*height/games missed due to injury ratio.

Heck, we all know who the Rangers drafted first round that year.

Well if the season keeps trending this way, hopefully they at some point wave the white flag and start letting the young guys have big minutes for developments sake.

I'm not saying it's nearly time to be waving any flags but still.

I was hoping for that a few years ago.

This idiot franchise kickstarted the "rebuild" by trading McDonagh and JT Miller.

Trading MCD and Miller to start a rebuild isnt that bad as they held alot of value. McD looked line he was going to regress bad due to injuries and wouldnt fit in the “timeline”. Miller i was more upset with as the talent level was obvious.

However, the trade that was made was horrible and did not bring back any value. Especially throwing both in the same trade made it even worse.

Isn't that bad?

Miller had more points last season than Howden and Hajek have had in their entire careers. Namestnikov scored 35 points, helped block Chytil, and got traded for a now 28 year old non-prospect who's never played in the NHL, and a draft pick that turned into a 19 year old winger who is currently near the bottom of his SM-liiga team in scoring but might be a size/speed combo a la Gauthier someday.

Hardly how to kick off a rebuild.

Pretty much Monday Morning QB'ing on Miller there.....yes, he has got a ton of points in Vancouver, but he was also sent away from TB. Why? From a combo of things...attitude and performance. He finally found it in Vancouver. Lots of empty points there. Not to mention he was one of the all-time worst Ranger playoff performers of all time (no hyperbole there).

I know talking Miller on these boards is beating a decomposing horse, but there's probably a fair bit of hyperbole in that last sentence.
Miller's 16-17 playoffs was terrible. 2nd on the team in reg season scoring and he only manages 3 assists in 12 games. Yup, crap series
15-16. The team stunk, but he was the 3rd highest scorer of a crappy bunch. He didn't will us to victory, but he was average just like everyone else
14-15 is interesting. 5th amongst forwards in scoring, including outscoring MSL. You could potentially call it disappointing for a 21 year old playing 14.5 mins a night, but then do you reconcile that with a lot of this board saying that Laf just came off a good playoffs when he scored 1 extra point in 1 extra game (yes he was a year younger)
13-14 seems like it was an ok playoff round for an outclassed team when he was 3rd liner who spent half a season in the AHL

He certainly was good in the playoffs here, but in the 2 chances he had with an extended run I'd certainly argue that he was 1-1 on 'good v bad'.

Yes it is terrible return. I was just saying the idea of trading then to kick off the rebuild was not a bad idea.

The return was underwhelming at the time and looks downright horrific now

He doesn't look like he belongs in this league atm

Dude 100% should've been sent to the AHL to try and dominate there and then bring that confidence back up. I'm not that blind to realize that management has played a big part of him being a nothingburger in his time in the NHL, but man, I dunno, Laf just doesn't do the thing, you know? Like... no hustle, doesn't try to take the reigns on the lines he's on. Dunno.

Laffy is just bad. There isnt any particular thing he is good at. His shot is the only thing that isnt awful. His passing a terrible. His skating is slow. Zero IQ. Doesnt win any board battles. Doesnt do anything with the puck. He looks like he should be the one being scratched many nights. Gauthier is playing way better than him and hes the one that gets scratched at times this season? For Laffys sake, he needs to go to a bottom dweller team and play or go to the AHL. Hes a boy playing amongst men. I feel bad for the kid but its not helping his case to just be in the NHL due to his draft status.
