lol….Ovechkin’s first game on NHL network…..I sure don’t miss the top PP pair of Eminger and Biron! /vomit
Sometimes I forget how truly putrid the roster was the first few years of his career... If we didn't win the lottery and get Ovi, we probably would have ended up like the Coyotes or Oilers with a never ending rebuild.

Ovi is officially #1.

When it comes to total earnings among all NHL players that is. Interesting list.

You get the feeling that some fans out there clearly don't want Ovie breaking 894.

How happy some of them were after his two straight games without a shot was evidence of that.

That same group was predicting his demise like 7-8 years ago.
Surely not Caps fans? Lots of haters around the league, though.

I am starting to become genuinely concerned about OV. He looks completely done and if you couldn’t see the name or number on his back you’d think it was a fourth liner who doesn’t compete hard.

Something is wrong, but I don't think it's that he's broken, he seems injured.

Like, we've said it a lot and it's a pretty observed truth among other players: if you can shoot you can shoot, those don't go away very quickly. The amount of shots we've seen him pass up, including one-timers roughly in the wheelhouse, is a lot more than normal.

Let's be real, as recently as last year if Ovechkin gets two or three bad passes on the powerplay that he wants to reset on, he's almost always pulling the trigger on the next one. Right now he's not doing that, and I don't think it's all bad passing because he's famously got a huge and really adaptable range for that.

When a guy isn't doing the thing you expect him to do the most it's either because he's bluffing that he can when he can't, or I guess potentially they're trying to flex the value of doing the opposite from a coaching perspective. I don't really think that's the case or the way to win your team's captain as a coach, though, so I kind of doubt it, and the gut says he pulled something that makes it suck to be a cannon right now. He's also not really hitting the same way, but he's had some lined up that he could have absolutely finished even in tight games and would normally do so.

Seems really weird time to come to this conclusion. What does that tell about our team then? He leads the team in points and his line out-chanced the opposition 6-4 during 5-on-5 in the last game. That's a good week for their standards (with Kuznetsov on that line).

Is this because he isn't shooting the puck himself but constantly looking to set up his line-mates? Because that's be ridiculous to say someone is done just because he's focusing on playmaking rather than shooting more. I would love it if he was shooting the puck more but for whatever reason, he isn't. He did pretty good job at shutting everyone up already about his lack of shots when he had 14 shots in a game but that seemed to be outlier statement game where he just wanted to show everyone that he still got it, but like i said, for whatever reason he isn't doing it consistently now.

Blaming Ovechkin for the PP struggling seems just plain stupid. Yes, it's built around him but the problem right now is that they can't get set-up. The puck goes down the ice far too easily before it ever reaches Ovechkin and when there is the first clearance after that it's usually one-and-done. They don't get set again. Blaming that on Ovechkin is stupid because he's basically never the guy whose job is to carry the puck into the zone anymore. It's Kuznetsov mostly and at times Strome and Oshie. For me the PP lives and breathes through Kuznetsov because now that Johansson isn't here he is still the only guy that can carry the puck into the zone with speed and while he still does that time to time, he's really easy to defend there and that's why they are really struggling to get set again. Strome is okay carrying the puck but that's far from ideal. Oshie lacks speed so badly that he needs to basically dangle through atleast 2 guys to even get into the zone with the puck.

I have noticed that the one timer passes to Ovie on the PP have been remarkably off target for most of the PPs that I have watched. I mean that is mostly on Carlson but when you see the pass too far forward or back it forces AO to stop and handle the puck instead of a one timer.

I agree. I almost want to say that this year the passes have been better when coming from Sandin or another lefty. 90% of Carlson's passes have been off the target.

Not me. I have 3 ovi rookie cards. And I have the Beehive one also, all in mint condition. The faster he does it, the faster the price goes up. They are already at $1500 to $2500. I got them out of packs so I only paid a few bucks.
