Leaf fan in peace but my heart breaks for Ovi and it's too bad that his dad won't get to see him eventually break the all-time goals record. At least he saw his son win a cup and many other accolades.... I know from reading about Ovi in the past how much his family means to him so I can't imagine how hard this must be for him to go through. My dad is 70 himself and I would be absolutely devastated if I lost him in a year let alone 10 or 20 even.

I've lost a parent at a younger age than Ovechkin is now, but it did not miraculously cancel my other duties in life and I wasn't even compensated nearly as generously for them. Like I said, it's fine to prioritize and re-evaluate things in life but it doesn't mean you can just eat the cake and keep it too. The very least Ovechkin should have done when choosing to walk away from his team is also give away his C to someone who's ready for that responsibility.

Mikhail is the GOAT. You gotta be an amazing dad to raise a son who is exceptionally talented and successful, yet humble and friendly with the people around him.

RIP Mr. Ovechkin

Anybody with a conscious understands an employee taking leave of absense for the death of a loved one has no bearing on their committment to a company.
But for those without a concious, Ovechkin has also earned his right. He has given everything to the Caps for 18 seasons.

RIP Mikhail Ovechkin. The quintessential hockey dad.

Ah man, it’s something nobody wants to go through, but everyone experiences. May Ovy and his family get time to grieve and my prayers for them. Family comes way before hockey and we all are here for Ovy. Please take time to grieve and recover.

Looks like Ovi changed his profile pic on Instagram (black to mourn the passing of his Dad) … but is that some functionality on IG I’m not aware of? Maybe a temp thing? Whatever the case I hope it doesn’t go back to what it was before.. it’s one thing to not change for fear of retribution, but to switch it back sends a whole other message.

36 goals, 17 games left, despite all his setbacks this season, OV still has a very good chance of reaching
50 goals this year and breaking the record.

I don’t see it. 45 goals would be a tremendous accomplishment.

Hitting 50 this year would be his most impressive accomplishment to date, I think, or at least in the top three. With all of the injuries to the team, him missing games due to the passing of his father, the team falling off and a fire sale of veterans ensuring, the power play sucking, and Kuznetsov playing beer league hockey… for him to hit 50 goals while playing 76 or 77 games (which is a 53 goal pace over the full 82 games) at age 37 under those circumstances would be bonkers.

OV: "Never tell me the odds!"
