I think the point of that part of the article is that travel to and froe wont be convenient which just adds some hassle and maybe more away time.
Looks like Ovie just posted on Instagram that his father passed away
If I had to guess I'd say that you're young and haven't dealt with loss on this level. If and when you do, it will likely change your perspective.Nothing against taking a leave, there are more important things in life than work or hockey. But even so taking a leave and simultaneously being a captain (of a team with 50 % playoff chances no less) aren't compatible.
I've lost a parent at a younger age than Ovechkin is now, but it did not miraculously cancel my other duties in life and I wasn't even compensated nearly as generously for them. Like I said, it's fine to prioritize and re-evaluate things in life but it doesn't mean you can just eat the cake and keep it too. The very least Ovechkin should have done when choosing to walk away from his team is also give away his C to someone who's ready for that responsibility. If I had to guess I'd say that you're young and haven't dealt with loss on this level. This is objectively the worst and most heartless take EVER. Shame on you.I've lost a parent at a younger age than Ovechkin is now, but it did not miraculously cancel my other duties in life and I wasn't even compensated nearly as generously for them. IIRC he was too ill even to be in the US during the Cup run. I think it's been brewing.Condolences to Ovi and the fam. I know his father has had some health issues but something must have been pretty sudden in the past couple days
Congrats on a historically terrible take on a site that churns out terrible takes. I am 100% confident that 0% of people within the organization would support your position.I've lost a parent at a younger age than Ovechkin is now, but it did not miraculously cancel my other duties in life and I wasn't even compensated nearly as generously for them. I don't know why you even bother responding to this. Some people are pure scum and there is nothing you can do to change that.Congrats on a historically terrible take on a site that churns out terrible takes. I am 100% confident that 0% of people within the organization would support your position.
Imagine thinking that someone taking time away from their job to be with their dying (and now deceased) parent means they’re not a leader. Do you work in the corporate world? Ever heard of the term, bereavement leave?
Do better. I'm sorry you didn't demonstrate the leadership and personal resolve necessary to stand up for yourself and what should have been most important to you. Hopefully age will grant you a little more wisdom down the road but just judging by the vibe here... I doubt it.I've lost a parent at a younger age than Ovechkin is now, but it did not miraculously cancel my other duties in life and I wasn't even compensated nearly as generously for them. Pettiness has no bounds….Has to be the strangest hill to die on that I've seen on this site in a real long time.
